Nate Woody to Army as DC

He was on Harbaugh’s non-coaching defensive staff this season.

Congrats to Nate. Well deserved.

On another note, Kerry Coombs is looking at coming back to the college game. Michigan should contact him immediately. He would be a  better recruiter and secondary coach than Partridge. Coombs would immediately be the best recruiter in Detroit and Ohio on the staff. He would also probably be a better recruiter than anyone OSU has and he is a great position coach. 750,000 and a Co-DC position would bring him in.

but but but...

I thought we weren't trying to be good... I thought we were trying to be "Average at Best" not "Leaders and Best"... the Harbaugh apologists tell me that we need to lower our expectations. Why are we so eager to hire such good and expensive coaching talent if we want to be 'average'?

That you think you can get Coombs makes you the most delusional person in the most delusional fan base in college football. As Urban famously said, “we (including Coombs) don’t want to coach average.”

A t[tm]OSU fan posting on a Michigan board in a topic about an analyst taking a DC job at a P5 school.

Calls M fans delusional while you wilfully ignore weed, tats, free cars, money, fake f'n jobs and the University of Phoenix (Columbus Campus) academics. But yeah, M fans delusional.

Keep lecturing though, clown.

Don't know much about him, but that seems like a pretty good promotion. Congrats. Being a part of the staff for an academy has got to be an amazing experience.

Another defensive coach getting promoted. It's almost like being associated with Don Brown is having a positive effect on these guys resumes. Weird.

You do understand that Auburn's defense gave up 45 points and more yards vs Bama than did Michigan's.  We all know the defense was bad against OSU and Wisky.  Giving up 28 to PSU on the road wasn't that bad considering the nature of those scores.  Michigan's defense also shut down ND and MSU among others.  It definitely wasn't Brown's best D but given the pieces, I think he did a decent job.

Ehhh, with the way today's offense is played, 28 at Penn St isn't bad and the 35 vs Bama was their lowest output of the season. Wisconsin's 35 is different because they got there in one half and one drive and then let off the gas. OSU playing against our defense like they are going against air in practice is the by far the worst.

But Don Brown is still a top D coordinator. He is just too boom or bust for my taste.

Every team pads their stats against lesser opponents. Every team gives up more points to their tougher opponents. In the end all of those performances are averaged together to reflect an overall performance. It's not a narrative, it's just statistics. We played a lot of good offenses and still ended up with a top 10 defense statistically. There are teams higher in those  rankings that didn't play anywhere near the schedule we went against - like san diego state, I believe. So, to say we have the 10th best defense statistically is pretty damn good no matter how you slice it. I'm not happy with the performances against the elites either, but to point to those as an argument to fire one of the most respected DCs in the country is absurd.

In Woody's case, it had little to nothing to do with Brown.  Monken knows Woody from his time as HC at Georgia Southern vs Woody's App St defense.

Plus Woody was PJ's DC at GT for one year and Monken is from the PJ coaching tree.  Woody was rumored to be headed to Army last year, but Army promoted a guy who was already on staff (John Loose).  With Woody's hiring, Army moved Loose to AHC.
