MBB vs Maryland thread (& Sparty goes down to Penn St, woot-woot!!!) Thread

Home vs Maryland on the Deuce (ESPN2). Could be a big win to get to above .500 and a mini-win streak going. Somehow we're -7 to Kenpom and I don't understand that; to me we should be underdogs here and I'm pessimistic we can hang with the more talented Terps team. We shall see. And yes, Sparty just lost to the same Penn St. (in Philadelphia for some reason) WE damn near lost to 3 nights ago.

This team can go 8 minutes and look great , then go 8 minutes and look like they can't win a game. And the seniors are the ones who should stabilize that a bit, but neither comes close.

1-2 and haven't hit the teeth of the big ten yet. Irvin needs to buy in that he's not the best player. Give it up at end of click and slough off on that Trimble screen.

takes far too much heat on this board.  he is what he is.  he's not a great athlete, yet we are stuck running our offense through him because walton and maar can't do it.  those two guys should be handling the ball more than irvin.

imo, irvin has done a good job at improving his handle over his career to become the defacto floor leader.  it's not his fault that he is forced to play point forward  imagine where  this team would be without him.  i shudder to think.  at least he attempts to get others involved. he leads the team in assists.  who would have ever thought that possible after his soph season.  not me.

Hate watching the games, embarrassed for the coach, embarrassed for the program.  Same deal for JB as Hoke.  They're not paid to be "good guys".  They're paid to coach, help the players improve, and win games.  None of those things are happening right now

There's some truth to this. I'm a big believer in being rational in relation to expectations. Michigan, historically, is a Tier II program. On the same level as Arkansas, OSU, Syracuse, UConn (w/o the titles), etc. For some reason we haven't been able to find our Boeheim. Fisher probably would've been the guy if not for the whole cheating thing. Beilein has been basically no different than any Michigan coach from Strack until Fisher. Hit and miss. All of those guys lasted 10 years max.

If they miss the tourney this year and next year, Beilein has to go. That's 6 appearances in 11 years and a streak of 3 misses in 4 years.

Bad shooting team has best shooting game of their season. (Four sub-30% shooters combine to shoot 8-11 from 3, about 2 of them were catch and shoot). Michigan outscored and outshot MD from 2. Forced a bad shooting team to shoot long 3s, and MD made them.

Throw in a couple of key missed FTs and that's it.

Hate fancystats in football and basketball. Just don't see this team making the tournament.
