#1 in the Big Ten is still basically king of the cripple fight, so I am reserving my enthusiasm for now.

I'd have been shocked if we WEREN'T ranked #1. Now its up to Red to do his job. Sure, the B1G is a cripple fight right now, but even the king of the cripples is a king. You know, like being valedictorian at Michigan State.

Really hoping for a good year this year, since it's on track to be Red's last. I know he's struggled the last couple years, but the man single-handedly saved Michigan hockey from being cut as a program & has brought us National Titles, Hobey Bakers, and scads of CCHA crowns. He deserves to go out, if not on top, at least with his head held high.

just our goalie troubles alone would seem to make first place even in a weak big ten hockey conference unlikely

...Minnesota is in the Big-10. They are picked #2 by the coaches.
My money is on Michigan underachieving again. We need a new voice in that locker room. Sorry Red. All flames burn out eventually. Can't keep performing the way we have been with all the talent we have.

If we pick it up on defense we probably could win the B1G. I was a little worried about the early departures.

Michigan State really fell off the map immediately after winning it all in 2007. Wisconsin did similarly since they were in the title game a few years ago. Those teams used to be 1-seed contenders so their tanking has weakened the conference
On top of that, Michigan and Minnesota both have earned the reputation of choking on the big stage.
Ohio State has always and probably win always suck.
No denying it's a weak league right now. The bottom 4 is downy soft
