They are really desperate for motivation these days it seems. In all honesty I can't blame them, it would be tough for me to be motivated every day knowing I'm a Spartan and no one knows I exist.
Little. Brother.
You know, it's not like the scheduling kerfuffle was even any sort of credit to MSU. It was done as a favor to PSU; demanded by the Conference to balance the four schedules of MSU, PSU, OSU and Michigan. MSU, as usual, just along for the ride.
Brandon's words could be motivating, they have a little sting to them. On the other hand, I just don't see how Hoke's quote could give motivate them at all.
I believe the Sparty logic about the Hoke quote is that they would be bitching nonstop about B1G favoritism for Michigan and disrespecting MSU if they had to play at Michigan two years in a row. So if if Hoke isn't bitching about having to go to MSU two years in a row, he must be disrepecting them.
Same. He literally explained what a football field is. To take that personally or as some kind of swipe is weird.
But then again, it is hard to lay in the weeds while walking the streets...
Well aside from the fact that his quote sort of overlooks the Duffy Daugherty period of MSU football when they were actually relevant, which really shouldn't matter to anyone today, it doesn't insult Sparty in the slightest. Everitt's comment does point how how Cousins' comment is a slight to all Spartan squads before him, so they should send him a big helping of thank you for that.
I'm so tired of the Spartan faithful taking slights at comments from Michigan folks that aren't slights. Aside from Mike Hart and a couple of retorts by Schembechler, the majority of the trash talk in this series has come from MSU. From Darryl Rogers to George Perles to Dantonio, whenever there's an inflammatory remark made about one side in the media, it's usually coming out of the mouth of a Spartan.
Fuck them and their fabricated sense of disrepect at the hands of mean old Michigan. November can't get here fast enough.
This is the first time I've seen this one. Good stuff, you crazy viking.
Awesome stuff Sparty.
Steve Everitt, Former UM Offensive Lineman
It would more accurately read as:
Steve Everitt, Former 4-time Big 10 Champion, 1993 Rose Bowl Champion, 3-1 vs. MSU, 4-0 vs. OSU, All-Big 10 UM Offensive Lineman
There, fixed.
Your rival points out how YOUR OWN WORDS don't make a lot of sense, and you're incensed to the point of using it as motivational material? For the love of god, nobody correct their grammar or punctuation, or else they'll REALLY want to beat us at football!
I'm thinking the MSU curriculum for their Freshman English 101 course must consist of watching YouTube clips of old "Schoolhouse Rock" vignettes.
I mean, the dumbassery never ends with these clowns.
For some reason (I think it was the "Sooooooo..." opening), I read that in John Cleese's voice and it was fucking hilarious.
At first glance I didn't see the typos I expected from Sparty, but on second glance, the first line has the quotation marks in the wrong place.
What did they expect Hoke to say? "Playing in that shithole two years in a row is unfair. My players deserve better. There is no way we can win either game."
LOL - If that sign motivates them then, whatever.
The first quote is Brandon quoting Brady, so they are in the right place. But still no need to compliment them.
Then why is there a capital "T" after the comma? And if it is a quote within a quote, there should be 'these little guys' around the internal quote.
The quotation marks are in the right place, but the plaque itself is not without grammatical error.
What are they trying to get out of the Everitt quote?
Putting that on a plaque seems like a very non-sequitur thing to do.
but to beat the Spartans on their turf two years in a row would be such a dagger to their program. I love the opportunity.
or, you could say it's going to be such a challenge for Sparty to beat Devin Gardner two years in a row...
MSU is going to be in full rebuild mode in 2014 as they lose a lot of starters after this year. If Gardner comes back, I think Michigan will be favored in that game. Also to Michigan's benefit, we will have a bye week before the MSU game in both years.
2013 is a make or break year for Dantonio--soft schedule in last year in Leaders Division before new East Division with Michigan, Ohio State, and PSU.
That defense is great, and there is no way the offense will be as bad as it was last year. Remember all the games they lost by a handful of points? They'll win more of those close games this year. I can only see them struggling with Michigan, Notre Dame, Nebraska, and maybe Northwestern. I'm saying they'll go 9-3 this year, at worst.
But, if they struggle again...hide your couches, denizens of East Lansing.
While I agree that they'll be better this year than last, it's a weird argument to say they lost a lot of close games and thus will win those ones this year. It's not like they lost every close game - they were 4-5 in games decided by less than a touchdown.
perpetuated by MSU folks. They lost several close games last year. They also won several close games last year.
In games decided by 4 points or less they went 4-5 last year.
You know what that is....it's about right. You win about half, you lose about half. They just choose to focus on the "tough luck" losses while ignoring the wins.
"Few players recall big pots they won, but every player can remember with remarkable accuracy the tough beats of his career." - Mike McDermott
I wasn't implying that they would win close games "just cuz." I think the MSU offense will be much improved from last year. Due to their improvement, they will have a smaller number of close games (let's say games that are decided by four points or less). I believe the most competitive games, and the games most likely to be "close games," on their schedule are games agains Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Northwestern. I see them going 1-3 against those four teams. I think they will win by more than a touchdown against the likes of Iowa, Purdue, Illinois, and Indiana (they'll study the second half from last year's game). An easy non-con slate, plus no Ohio State, and no Wisconsin carve out a pretty manageable schedule. I see a 9-3 season, at worst.
Sparty does not rebuild. Sparty reloads.
I think that was the word you were looking for.
x1000. I think it could be very detrimental to Dantonio's coaching career, which would make me happy to see another Tressel disciple go down in flames.
If they don't like the "little brother" meme, why do they do they work so hard to perpetuate it?
Awesome. This will be hiliarious to bump when we win there this year. This is the first time since '06 I'm not worried at all about our little bro. They're a .500 team that just lost a bunch of NFL talent. They have a QB who didn't crack the top 100 in passer rating last year and a bunch of receivers who couldn't catch herpes in an MSU sorority house. I'll also offer these four words that should scare the daylights out of any michigan state fan: starting tailback Riley Bullough.
They return every significant contributor to the passing game from last year (Mumphrey, Fowler, Burbridge, Lippett, Sims). Burbridge and DeAnthony Arnett were pretty highly regarded coming into college, as well. As those guys continue to improve, they might not be a group of rock stars, but they should be fine.
to be much better, particularly if MSU is okay at running the ball, which I think they will be. Less talent at RB but some of their OL troubles last year (injuries and shuffling) shouldn't be as bad this year. Also, seems unlikely their receivers will have a 2-year case of the dropsies.
I'm curious to see if they'll be able to move the ball against ND, in South Bend. Even if they can't, they play enough of a weak schedule to build some confidence on the Offensive side of the ball early in the season. I expect them to be at worst a 1-loss team when Michigan goes to EL.
threat? is what Brady should have said.
Bring. It. On.
These signs require more reading than any MSU football player is capable of or is required to do in 4 years in EL....
These days college kids are begging to be "disrespected" because it's not cool otherwise. Being disrespected means you can feel like the guys in Under Armour commercials and use it as motivation, because Lord knows it's impossible to be motivated otherwise. So coaches can find just about any quote about their team floating around on the Internet, call it disrespect, and fire their team up with it.
MSU is probably not going to be very good this year. They should have one of the league's better defenses though.
I think Michigan has some questions on defense, but offensively will likely be better than MSU.
Plus it's going to be in November. Rain? Cold?
Has the makings of a classic smashmouth festival. I like Michigan's chances though much better than 2011 or 2009 because I think the talent level is much higher on UM's roster.
honestly, i had to read the brandon quotes like 3 times before i could find something in there that could be construed as "motivating".
grasping for straws. panic time.
Before some Sparty student manager took the time to plaster these quotes on the wall, I was getting the feeling that Sparty was taking the Michigan game for granted. It was almost like we were viewed as some MAC-school-equivalent. But now -- with these quotes -- they must really be fired up. I think we're in for it now. It's like Bluto just inspired all of them to run out of a room screaming, "Let's Do It!"
Darn student managers ... making the difference once again!
