Greg Harden and Will Hagerup on WTKA this AM

Submitted by APBlue on

For those of you who didn't catch it, Sam and Ira had Greg Harden and Will Hagerup on their show this morning.

I really enjoyed the conversation.  It gave a lot of perspective to the work that Greg Harden does with Michigan's athletes.

They mentioined the 60 Minutes on Showtime piece that James Brown did on Greg Harden.  I've read about Greg Harden before, but I hadn't seen that piece.

Since I missed it when it aired, I'll be conducting a full review of my fanhood over the weekend.

I figure it'll be a slow couple of weeks until Dec. 28th, so I thought I'd go ahead and share it here.

I was waiting to hear what it was myself but never did hear. He did say at one point he had to become tottaly respnosible for himself and his actions at a time when others didn't take responsibility. I take this to mean it involved other people in some way.  But as to the nature of the problems they never revealed it.

I heard the piece.  It sounded like Hagerup was very fortunate that Michigan allowed him to stay.  He had to pay his own tuition for the year he sat out.

Hagerup also talked about the relationship between himself and Hoke.  It reinforces just how good a guy Hoke seems to be.  It's a shame that things didn't work out.

and I think it's definitely worth listening to.  I think it really underscored an excellent and elite part of the Michigan athletic program that not a lot of people know about.  Being a college student can be very stressful and trying at times, even beyond being an athlete on top of it.  What Greg Harden's program does is life-changing for many of these young men and women.  They get back on the right path toward being successful rather than being derailed permanently by their setbacks.  I was very impressed listening to Will Hagerup eloquently describe the process and how it helped him.  It sounds like whether or not he ever plays pro football, his future is bright again.
