Everyone's Favorite 2009 Recruit

Submitted by ChipBleedingMaize on

So I've been looking through the list of names we have so far. If the class ended today, and we could see in the future 3 or 4 years, who is everyone looking forward to seeing in the winged helmet the most, and what might that player bring to the table. I'm expecting a few people to drop Big Will, and lets say that Newsome does in fact stay true to his word.  Who will be the most exciting player to watch in Ann Arbor (or tearing it up in Columbus, however you want to imagine it)...

I am pretty much excited about all the skill recruits though. Last night I had a dream about a team full of Breaston's running wild. It was hot.

Newsome is crucial, and Cambell is a beast, but I like Teric Jones the most. He's from Michigan, stops by on facebook groups to chat. Plus the kid is fast as hell. I bet he puts up huge numbers in high school this year.

i'm not too high on Campbell. i think he could be a beast but his attitude sucks and he doesn't give a shit about UM. i want to see Newsome, Beaver and McNeal. couldn't care less about Gallon

reading that, i'm convinced that's actually a picture of you.

after last summer's camp, lloyd offered him a schollie and big will committed on the spot. i'm guessing that implies he cared atleast a *little* about michigan.

and what attitude are you talking about? from all accounts, the kid is already a beast because he's been dominating on BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL at some of these summer camps. yeah, sounds like a real prima donna slacker to me.

jeez dude, get a clue before you spew your uninformed opinion again.

baleedat, at the risk of you complaining about my attitude, what prompts: "i'm not too high on Campbell. i think he could be a beast but his attitude sucks and he doesn't give a shit about UM."? It seems like a pretty harsh judgement about someone with whom you've (I assume) had no interaction.

about Michigan? how does his attitude suck? where does all that come from? he definitely does care about Michigan, he, from all the videos i've seen has a great attitude. he's probably the best player we have in this class.

...JT Turner. The fact that JT's father was so high on Michigan...while mom was solid for osu could have been disastrous for Michigan. The sweatervest wanted JT bad. But in the end..the good guys won out!

its just my opinion of the guy from the limited interviews i've seen and the quotes i've read. i don't know anyting, but what do any of you know? have any of you talked to the guy? no. you're all just as uninformed as i. i just happen to not like what i've heard from the guy so far. if you all like him, great. but when 17-18 year old kids say things like "i'm the best DT in the country" and "i just want to do whatever gets me to pros fastest" i don't like it. and i think if he takes a trip to USC and they throw a bunch of pussy at him out there he may never come back. that being said i really really want him to go to UM. and os, i don't like your attitude either...you're a dumb dumb

i don't think i'm very good, i'm not sure what i'm getting all this attention for? he's not even gonna visit USC, plus we've got boubacar and teric jones in his ear keeping him here. true story, he was at a clinic or something of the like recently wearing a shirt michigan state shirt with a red "X" through it, he said he was looking for an ohio state shirt so he could do the same thing. he's a guy you will come to like if you don't already.

See, that's the thing. In the absence of any substantial information (newsflash: a 5-star recruit thinks he's good? that never happens!), I haven't formed any opinion about his character. You're right I don't know him. That means he could be great, and he could be an ass, but you won't see me mouthing off like I know. While you, armed with 2 quotes, and no real information, ascribe negative attributes of your own creation. You see?

i think we might be taking ourselves just a little too serious. but yes, i see

by the way, how many of you have bad mouthed pryor since he committed to osu? how many of you have said you don't like his attitiude or he was a prima donna or you're glad he didn't pick UM? i got a feeling if i had said those same thing about him none of you would have objected

I have absolutely no problem with Pryor, and I never have. I'm not aware of him doing anything terribly bad. I also don't see attending Ohio State as a character flaw - it was his choice for his life. So, whatever.

will campbell We need to get him a couple of bookends. Watching USC destroy us in the 200X rosebowl made me realize how far behind we were in DL recruiting. My only problem with pryor is that he SEEMED stupid, not because he didn't choose michigan, just his speech patterns don't make him sound very educated. But you could probably point out a lot of michigan players who aren't well spoken. But a QB? Usually that position radiates confidence since they're used to taking over the huddle. (awaiting the backlash from chitown about how talking in the huddle and speaking in front of TV cameras are two completely different things, and so I preempt that attack with, 'they're different, but not 'completely' different). And he didn't SEEM very honest either. It was pretty apparent that he had a strong leader in UoOS, but gave the impression that the other 4 schools in his top five had a real shot, long after he had narrowed his list to two, and after signing day. Seems a bit selfish and dishonest and stupid. I guess that's three problems I have with him. But yadda, yadda, yadda, he's young, people grow up, he's making the hardest decision in his life, blah blah, blow it out your arse. There's never a good reason for not dealing with people honestly that doesn't involve being polite. (whoa triple negative!)

There's a lot to be excited about so far in this class. Choosing one just doesn't seem fair so I chose three.

1. Toussaint - I haven't seen a UM running back with moves like that since Biakabatuka. After watching his video I find myself wondering what McGuffie would be like if he had the lateral quicks that Toussaint has.

2. Campbell - We've seen what a dominant DT can do for a defense: Gabe Watson every fourth or fifth play and Branch in '06 were really good. Is it possible that he plays OL? Or both?!?

3. Newsome - Reminds me of what someone once said about Tyrod Taylor from Va Tech "He runs like a gazelle, apparently he throws like one, too." Boy can he run. If he gets that whole throwing thingy down then he'll be a star.

McNeal, Turner, and Newsome for me. I don't want to incite more argument, but I worry a little about Campbell too. Overall I'm really excited about him playing for us and I won't judge him until he gets here, but I do have that little feeling in my gut.

BlueSeoul - I'd bet you that 85% of our own football team would qualify as "unintelligent". So Pryor seems unintelligent? Big whoop. I think we spend too much time getting all up in these kids "character". For us, they're jerseys on a field. We're never going to hang out with them, or be their neighbor, or whatever, so do I give a shit if they're arrogant? I operate under the assumption that 95% of all college football and basketball players have had their balls washed consistently througout their entire life to the point that when they reach college, they're, for the most part, insufferable dicks. Just don't get arrested, don't do anything to embarass the school, and kick ass on Saturday - that's all I really care about.

While Newsome is the most *important* player in the class, being reminded about Newsome and Beaver arriving in 2009 serves primarily as a reminder that we're probably not going to be an elite team until 2011 or so. Unless Steve Threet is just REALLY good (say he has a Colt McCoy or Sam Bradford redshirt freshman season)...which would then lessen the importance of adding an elite quarterback. Convoluted? Yes. But you asked.

Chitown, In my opinion, the concern with Pryor was his behavior. He is a guy who got into fights during his basketball state tournament and seemed to be doing everything in his power to pull the spot light to him. These appears to be behaviors that may run counter to your quoted desire to have players that "don't do anything to embarrass the school." My belief (based upon his supposed high class ranking and desire to enroll in a college with real academic credentials) is that Newsome is less of a risk in the embarrassment category and possibly has more physical tools than Pryor. I have NO PROBLEM with the fact he chose OSU. I think most of us had assumed he was going there from the beginning.

Well, I'm obviously excited about Newsome, since he will likely be our first RichRod guy running the offense. Other than Newsome, I'm really liking Fitzgerald Touissaint. What a name! And I agree with Pinball about his moves. The highlight video on him was amazing. Of course I'm referring to Toussaint's highlight video, as I haven't seen PinballPete's.
