Coach Bev Plocki Appreciation Thread

Next edition of the Funk and Wagnall's Dictionary might want to use a picture of Coach Plocki to illustrate the word "perseverance".

Coach Plocki is an excellent coach (an all-time great at UofM) and deserves all the praise anyone can send in her direction but...no, she has not passed Hutch.  The first championship East of the Mississippi, at a cold weather school in a warm weather sport, each season starting with a 412 game road trip, etc. When you’re the first to do something in the history of your sport, it simply means more.

Just my opinion (which doesn’t mean jack shit) and others will certainly disagree.  I respect that and can enjoy having two coaches good enough to start such a discussion.  If only we could have a similar discussion about Howard/Harbaugh (or replacement)

Congrats to coach Plocki and the UofM Women’s Gymnastics team on their 2021 National Championship!!

Michigan just became the first Big Ten team to win a championship in women's gymnastics. The only teams to win prior are alabama, ucla, utah, georgia, florida, and oklahoma. All are multiple time winners. That's it. Just those 6 schools. Michigan is also the only big ten team to finish as high as second before tonight.

This is just as big a deal as the softball championship.

Softball was the national runner up in 2015, FWIW. Agree both are legends— and don’t forget these two:

Marcia Pankratz, field hockey: 10 B1G Titles, Michigan’s first women’s national title in 2001.

Ronni Bernstein, tennis: 8 B1G Titles in 13 seasons (I believe they will add to that this season), 8 NCAA Sweet 16’s.

A partial bio from the M GO BLUE Athletic website:

Bev Plocki has completed her 31st season as head coach of the University of Michigan women's gymnastics program. During her tenure, Plocki has transformed the program into a consistent national powerhouse. She has led the Wolverines to 24 Big Ten championships, the most by any coach, in any sport, in Big Ten history. She also has guided the squad to six Big Ten regular season titles, 24 NCAA Championship appearances and 10 NCAA Super Six berths.

Please add a National Championship to her resume.

CONGRATULATIONS to Coach Bev, your assistants and the players.

Here is the final performance that wins it for Michigan.

I’m sure she gets incentivized bonuses annually by finishing well in the tournaments and what not, but I’m curious what a bonus for someone like this looks like. We all know a lot about the football and basketball bonuses but I’m wondering what a bonus would look like for someone like the gymnastics coach to perform to this level. I’m sure it’s out there if I looked, but the thought just came up
