Clinkscale Impact on Kody Jones and Myles Pollard Recruitment
Sam Webb just posted an article regarding Clink connecting with Kody Jones and the desire to pursue Myles Pollard. According to the article, Jones is a big fan of Clink and has verbally assured coach that he is still all-in. I think many view Jones as a huge cog in the Walter Nolan recruitment, but the article also goes on to state that Clink has assigned Kody the job of working on Myles Pollard, and that coach has not mentioned any other recruit names to Kody to help with, as of right now. I think this speaks to how high on the list Pollard is for this staff. In addition, Clink was Pollard's first offer back at Kentucky, and Pollard is quoted as saying Clink is "very much family as well". Jones closes by confirming that Michigan is very high up on the list for Pollard.
I think the article is behind paywall, but I have summarized the gross majority of the content (I hope that this doesn't break the rules?)
Kind of tough to compartmentalize this at the moment, but that's good. I guess.
It is good news
I hope you're doing alright brother.
Not behind a paywall.
Is it a hot take to say that Clinkscale might be an upgrade over Linguist?
I think it is, and that's why I haven't said it yet lol
I don't think so, because we really don't have any knowledge of Linquist as a coach. He lost his job his job in Dallas, and before that he bounced around so much, you can't really critique his coaching. He has always recruited, but we don't know much about his coaching chops. Clinkscale has a track record.
Recruiting wise I think Mo may be a little better, but his connections were in the South and Texas. Even with him being as good of a recruiter and with the connections that he has, I think it was going to be hard to get kids to come to Michigan from those areas. Clink is good in the Midwest, and should be easier for him to get good recruits. I think Clink's results the last few years give him the edge on coaching, with the defensive numbers his secondary has put up and the guys he has put into the NFL.
Yes. I'm not one of those people saying we should just recruit the Midwest, but usually the Midwest and East coast guys are the ones who have been sticking around. We absolutely have to recruit nationally as well, but we definitely need a strong presence more locally. A top 100 guy from TX does no good if he ends up transferring after a year.
"SHOULD HAVE HIRED HIM OVER LINGUIST!"
-Seth, IIRC.
Pollard was just tweeting that he got an offer from his dream school Florida. Sounds like they might be the one to beat.
A friend of mine is a teacher at his high school. She tells me that schools are there to see him all the time. He's a great prospect and I think Michigan has a shot, but based off of anecdotal examples this one feels far from over.
"Dream schools" seem to mean so very little in recruiting. Yes, it likely gets that dream school into a top list and a shot, but you don't have to look any further than Michigan being Domani Jackson's dream school to know it doesn't mean a whole lot and doesn't mean that Florida is now all-of-a-sudden "the team to beat".
I'm just telling you what his tweets said. Sounds like it's a special offer to him just going by the replies he's made to other people. I didn't say they were the "team to beat". I said they might be.
Michigan - Oscar Delp
Maybe that will work out like all of the kids that always list Michigan as their “dream school” and then head elsewhere? I always look at it as the death knell when they say that about Michigan.
Good planning to get him to visit June 11th- 13th.
Thats good if hes coming as a safety. Because, I hope coach Clinkscale is hotter after Domani Jackson.
After watching his highlights, and seeing how physical he is, how aggressively he come up on run plays, and how he hits, it does look like he would have more value to a team at safety than at corner.
His aggression is fun to watch.
