CFN's Analysis on UM

Submitted by GunnersApe on

Another article on the "drama" by Pete Fiutak. The article isn't as glowing as the Rivals one but worth a read.

Yes I know it's a hundred years old in internet time but I didn't see it posted yet. Let's hope the dead horse has been beaten enough. Special thanks to Kansas and the Shit Storm that's a coming.

"In the end, this doesn’t really matter. If Rodriguez turns the program around and starts winning, this will be seen as a tough patch everyone had to get through on the road to success. If the team goes 6-6 this year, the violations could be seen as the official beginning of the end of the failed experiment, and they can be used as an excuse to finally bring the marriage of Michigan and Les Miles together."

How do they come up with this shit?

Not to mention an incredibly bad idea. Les seems to have fallen further and further behind without Saban's players.

That, and the famed Lesticles have looked more and more like they pump Lestrogen after that fuck-up in calling for the spike and then hanging Jeffries out to dry last year.

A few months ago (when we were in the news because the NCAA had sent us the official allegation documents), I was looking over the ESPN CFB Insider Rumor blog, and there was actually legitimate speculation that RR would probably be fired mid-season, and that Lloyd Carr would potentially be brought in as an interim coach to finish the year out.

The fact that so many people still base their opinions on what ESPN (or any other MSM outlet) says is terrifying.

Is it me, or is the MSM wedded to the idea of Les Miles coaching Michigan more than either Les Miles OR Michigan? Methinks they want to write the story of the prodigal son returning home and the happy ending, (no, the other kind).

If Jim Harbaugh had a large football-crazed group of fans surrounding him, I'm sure he would have been mentioned instead of Miles. Fiutak would love to bring the LSU nutjobs back into the conversation.

the media in Louisiana and message boards far and wide are adamant about the dissatisfaction in Tiger country of Miles' performance. more than 60% would applaud him parting ways with LSU and heading north.

RR is going to kick so much ass this year that Les will want to come back as an assistant to learn from the master.  Of course it will help that our QB tandem is going to carry us with 40+ppg

This is poorly written. It seems like the guy didn't really read the response as to what happened (holding extra practice), just the self imposed sanctions. Even the sanctions he didn't get (two less assistants on the coaching staff).

Well, no one down here even cares. It out of the main ESPN news cycle now. Just us Michigan "fans" reverberating back and forth at this point ...

Nothing particularly offensive but just rehashing old garbage - Les Miles?  Come on.

It's too bad these media outlets aren't held accountable for putting out this junk.  Has anyone looked into the functioning of their "quality control" staffs.  If they did maybe we would have to put up with less of this needless, self-serving mediocrity (nice word).

Good point about Kansas.  Also, if USC has to vacate some games, especially a National Championship, it should overshadow the Michigan story and put it on the "back pages" of national consciousness where it belongs.

that RR has never, ever tried to gain an advantage over the competition by intentionally breaking any NCAA rules (here or anywhere else that he has coached). In following articles about the man since his arrival in Ann Arbor, a few things come through loud and clear: 1.) He is truly concerned about his players and the program (most players will support him to the death), 2.) He is fiercley competitive and hates to lose, and 3.) He is a decent man. I believe (as I have said many times in the past on numerous blogs), that many opposing coaches (and fans) in the Big Ten are very concerned that RR will eventually turn M into a national power again. I really believe that this is one reason that this "vedetta" has been started against him. When he turns the program around (starting this season), there will be hell to pay for the opposing teams, starting with MSU and Purdue and yes, eventually even Ohio State.

Most of the negative is from people and programs that want us to fail.  The fact that actual UM fans actually believe this stuff and jump on the anti-RR bandwagon is troubling.

Give the guy a break.  All he did is agree to come to Michigan to bring us back to elite status in college football.  If you don't like this, go support Dumbtonio, the Vest or something else.

He started out well, with a nice analogy about "speeding at the Indy 500," and I liked his point that if it were Bo, someone would have had his back and it never would have seen the light of day, but then it went down the crapper pretty quickly.  I definitely agree with the commenters about Les Miles; nobody except the media seems to think he will ever set foot on the UM campus again.

Reading this article was sorta like walking through a rose garden but suddenly finding nothing but "fertilizer" under your feet.

Simple. He just reaches around with his left hand.

I don't hate Fiutak like most do here, and I think most of the article acknowledges in a general way the nature of the actual infractions.

The reference at the end to Miles is dumb, but what I really object to is what I object to in literally every media account about the issue since Michigan's response, with the single exception of Jon Chait: the absolute refusal to even refer to, let alone criticize, the role of the Free Press and its efforts to create a completely bogus narrative of what happened.

Look Les was a Michigan man maybe he always will be and I respect him for that but do I want him as our head coach? No F-ING way. He had his shot and we found our coach in Rich Rod.

After the search we found our guy and he is our coach. I think all of these media outlets think we care what they write and we really don't. You take shots at my school  Fuck you, you take shots at my coach Fuck you, you take shots at our pride fuck you. That is my mind set now, I don't care about any writer or blogger who is not part of this family.

I know there is are millions of people they bleed Maize & Blue like myself and after the hell we have gone through we are now in the same mind that this we are about to light the Big 10 and the rest of the country up with spread & shread and get back to smashing people around.

We need to not even give these D-Bags the time of day because they all kicked us when  we were down and we should never forget that.

Man, I remember a bit more than 10 years ago, when I was still living up north, stumbling onto CFN and thinking how great it was. For a while, it was the only thing on the Net, this was at least 5 years before this blog was founded.

It was indispensible for me. And, at the time, smart.

But, man how have times changed. CFN still has the exact smae voice and style. Havent changed, Its boring. And, the blogs are all over the place, feeding my addiction every bit as well, if not better. If it wasnt for there obsessive collecting of TV lists, I'd never check into the place.

I still like Fiutak's Cavalcade of Whimsey, but it used to make me LOL circa 2002. Now it barely stands out.

I remember the same thing -- I used to sit and read CFN during lectures back in about 2002. Seemed like good stuff back then ... but yeah, now that there's so much more team-specific, in-depth information available, it makes you realize that they just don't know very much about anything. As Brian once said (I think it was Brian anyway), the analysis there is a mile wide and an inch deep.
