BBall Recruiting - New 19 Target/EM Top 100 Guard/Wing Samuell Williamson
With the basketball season in the books after another superb year by Coach Beilein and the crew, its time to turn our attention to recruiting where hopefully the NC game run pays dividends.
Samuell Williamson out of Texas, may very well be the most underrated prospect in the country to the other services. I'm in the process of doing my 2019 rankings as we speak and he's likely to be a top 50 prospect..................he's that good. At a legit 6'7 with prototype length, a nice handle, a lethal jumper off the bounce and good athleticism he has the total package.
Williamson reminds me a bit of former UNC standout Justin Jackson in terms of size/frame and skillset. He also has some Paul George (obviously extremely poor man's version) like qualities to his game.
Just to give some context, when a prospect says "I'm hearing from X, Y, Z the most" that is generally code word for his top group/leaders.

I don't think he has to really answer for those IMO. They're two different blogs and forums. He hasn't said those types of things on MGoBlog. He's just presenting us with recruiting information and his opinions.
He's allowed to have personal opinions re:the program. I am a frequent poster at UMHoops too and I often disagreed with Matt. But for most of his opinions, I felt he at least tried to support them with reasons and evidence when available. Maizen is just, quite frankly, an idiot and negative for the sake of being negative and believing he's smarter than everybody else. Was Matt wrong about JB? It looks like it. And that's ok. If he presents an opinion on JB or the direction of the program, I'm sure people will take his history into account. But I don't really care what he said about JB when he's giving us a specific and narrow free service.
And Matt said over at UMHoops, many times, that he knows when and where he has to be "professional" and when he can just be a fan and have a frank discussion. If you peruse Endless Motor, there's not that bias and subjectivity in their work (at least as it pertains to specific coaches/programs etc). Obviously there's subjectivity in their analysis of players because there is at every recruiting site.
So MattD won't be getting a bid to your sorority?
I got into as many debates/arguments with him as anyone there, but you still have to look at the immense value that his connections and recruiting updates bring. He's not a bad guy at all, just strong in his opinions, as many of us are.
This isn't necessarily a recruiting question, but after watching Villanova, I couldn't help but think how good Brandon Johns could be as a "5" at Michigan instead of a "4". Do you know if he is being looked at there?
With the likelihood of Wagner going pro, Teske is more than capable of starting at the 5. My concern is Teske, Matthews, and Simpson on the floor at the same time and not being able to stretch the floor with shooters. Plus, who would back up Teske? I don't think Davis is ready and his upside is limited anyway (he also won't stretch the floor) and Castleton is certainly going to redshirt. That leaves Johns, who I think would work really well there. Iggy playing the 3/4, Nunez at 2/3, and obviously DeJulius at 1.
Not sure we have seen enough of Davis. He seems athletic enough for the small time I have seen him. I also think you will see Teske as an option to stretch the floor. Evidently he has range out to the 3 point line. Time will tell how good he is at it.
Problem with that is the 4 and 5 positions are very different in Beilein's offensive system. It's very difficult, particularly for a true freshman (see Livers, Isaiah) to be able to learn and play both effectively. Wilson was not able to play both effectively until the latter half of his RS Sophomore season--his 3rd year in the program.
We have been here before and listened to this record and know the tune from beginning to end. Michigan is currently not a school to get high level recruits who aren't here for an education or even a championship for that matter. New age players are here to get to the NBA and are One and Done.
So, is it best to get these hot recruits out of college who are only here for a year or is it best to get the hard working guy who will stay for a few years?
Very helpful and insightful: This post and the replies.
