People need to get off their high horses. We get the HC of our dreams, demote our previously solid DC to a position coach, hire a hot young DC who was also a recruiter of the year, add a former NFL OC as wide receivers coach, add our dream rb coach, and people still get pissy over every single assistant coach hire. News flash: Harbaugh cannot bring in the number 1 position coach in America for every position. Every guy needs a start, and if young Harbaugh can competently coach our already talented group of TE's along with the help of Baxter, I see no problem. There's plenty of talent and experience on this staff to help a young buck. Additionally, a coaching staff needs to get along, and I'm going to guess Jim and Jay get along pretty darn well for him to hire him. For those complaining about a 25 year old going into houses to recruit, he's only 25 for one year, in 3 years down the road, he's a 28 year old position coach with already a couple of years of major recruiting experience walking into a kid's house and instantly connecting and impressing HS kids with not only his age, but his experience for his age. Love the hire.

I agree, but it's impossible to put together a staff of all star, can't miss types. If anything, Jim has already come pretty damn close. Part of a successful program is building a stable and strong program, and that includes developing coaches, not just players. One young guy submersed in experience is not a bad thing at all. Rather have young coaches that could eventually move up the coaching chain learn from Jim himself then import them in when our coordinators leave to become head coaches elsewhere.

He's got a varied background. He helped work S&C with the Ravens and has been around football his entire life. Something tells me the son of Harbaugh will be a good one.

This is called building a coaching tree, who knows 15-20 years from now he could be the head coach.

Nevertheless, everyone should read the Mercury News Article, kid was adamant that he didn't want a handout, he's paid his dues.

Think its a great hire, welcome Jay!

1-Between Drevno, Fisch, and Baxter, he'll have plenty of help working with the TEs, if he does that very much at all, which,
2-Given his role with the Ravens, I could see him being the "cool young guy to recruits" and "progressive offensive stathead" on the staff.

Unless I missed something, Baxter was hired to ONLY coach ST. To think he will now assist with TE's is wishful thinking. Plus I know posters like alum96 believed Jim would hire a TE coach who could assist with OL coaching to lighten the load for Dervno. That doesn't seem to be the case now

A lot of ass kissing in this thread. There have been a lot of complaints here about coaching nepotism with Carr, Rodriguez and Hoke. Now we have real honest to goodness nepotism and everyone is just HARBAUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally I don't care. I mean obviously it is nepotism, but fuck we have Jim Harbaugh coaching the team.

Pretty cool to see Jim hire his son. Yes we know it's a big load to shoulder especially this being his first real job as an assistant but I have faith in anything Harbaugh. Go Blue!

This will be the first time Michigan has a coach younger than me. I got used to all the players being younger than me recently, but thought I had a way to go till I was older than the coaches

Good good.

Now we have 2 clear scapegoats for every loss with today's 2 hires.  The 2 least experienced ones are the easy ones to pile all the blame on for every loss.

Also people were worried about the lack of minorities on the staff.  Based on that beard, worry no more.  All the gingers will belong to us.

Take away his last name, and people would think this was the worst position coach hire in the country.  The guy is barely older than the players he will be recruiting and has zero experience with TEs.  This is ridiculous.
