2 UGA 247 writers (and Steve Wiltfong) CB Nico to UM

Submitted by Bambi on

Coming off his official to UGA. Looks promising.

Edit: National writer Steve Wiltfong just did as well. His quote:

"Just did but wanted to ask a Michigan source first. The Intel definitely points to Ann Arbor."

What's crazy is that this is happening so late at night. It's like he's decided to go to Michigan and told the coaches of Georgia or something. It would be awesome to have this swing back to UofM after Georgia seemed to be getting all the talk for the last couple of weeks.

It's a meritocracy with Harbaugh, the way it should be. If all 5 are good enough to play, they will.  Very unlikely a talent like DPJ or Tarik Black won't play next year. Nico is a giant reciever and should see the field right away as well causing huge matchup problems.  Hawkins may get moved to DB, not sure how game ready he is at WR, but let's remember that he is a year older and was probably given a weight training plan over the past year.

Martin is a bit smaller and might need a RS year to put on some pounds, but if they planto put him at slot, and Perry is still an unknown, he very well could be on the field as well.

I know it's a meritocracy, as it should be. The best players should play. I just hope that if we're playing guys, they're guys who are in a position to make a contribution.

Last year we burned the redshirts of Sean McKeon and Nick Eubanks, seemingly only for a few snaps in garbage time against overmatched opponents. I don't see the point to that.

I'm not sure if giving a few more snaps to Michael Jocz rather than playing a raw true freshman like McKeon or Eubanks in garbage time clearly qualifies as playing a "worse" player.

You should be able to go to a freshman and say, listen, you won't play much this year. So you can either get on the field for a few snaps at the end of the Rutgers game, or you can have a fifth year here, during which you might be the starter and put the finishing touches on an NFL resume. Or if you're ready to go, you can leave for the NFL or take a grad transfer year somewhere else.

I think that most players would understand the logic and want to keep their options open. Players want to play, and most wouldn't want to burn a whole season of eligibility for the sake of a few plays.
