An Interview with Demetrius Hart's Mom

Submitted by TomVH on

FL RB Demetrius Hart is making his second trip to Ann Arbor this weekend for the annual (and just completed) spring game. The difference this time, is that his mother* is a long side him to take in Ann Arbor. With the recent NCAA allegations, Mrs. Hart had some questions for the coaching staff and concerns for her son. I spoke with her about the visit. Here's what she had to say.

TOM: How’s the trip going so far?

MRS HART: The amount of support from everyone, the coaches, academics, and fans is amazing. The environment, everything that Michigan has to offer has been really great. Michigan seems to be the total package in my mind. This is my first time at Michigan, so I was overwhelmed. I’m looking for the total package for my son, and that seems to be here.

TOM: Has it been nice to see Ricardo’s family? How close are you with them?

MRS HART: Yes, we’re very close. His mom and I are very close. Demetrius calls Ricardo’s mom, mom, and her children call me Aunt. I know if he comes to Michigan, I’d know he’d have a family away from home. It’s a good feeling to have that here.

TOM: How does this visit compare to other schools you’ve been to?

MRS HART: I haven’t been to any other schools yet, but we’re planning on some official visits. Demetrius has gone on a lot of visits. He is a very humble child, and he wants to feel loved and wanted, and that’s what we’re looking for. We’re a close family, and we won’t steer him in the wrong direction, and he knows that. We also respect and trust the decisions he makes, too, so we just want what’s best for him. Whatever school he’s interested in we want to check in to. I honestly feel very good about Michigan after this visit, I really do.

TOM: Did you have your meeting with Rich Rodriguez, or the coaches yet?

MRS HART: I sat down with Fred Jackson, and I’m going to be talking to Rich Rodriguez tomorrow. We’re going to talk about some things as a whole. I respect him as a person, and he [Rodriguez] seems very genuine. He has made very good decisions with recruiting, which impressed me. All the kids that were visiting were very polite. How they conducted themselves was very impressive. It reminded me a lot of Demetrius. They expect a lot of out the athletes, and we need that for our child. The distance is a problem, but if I know he’s ok, then I’m comfortable with that. That speaks very highly of Michigan, if I feel that very comfortable.

TOM: What will you be discussing with Rich Rodriguez?

MRS HART: I basically want to know about the future of the coaching staff, where everything is headed, how my child would play a part in their goals, and also about the NCAA issues. With everything that’s been going on, I want some reassurance, because who am I to judge them based on what I’ve read. Apparently they’re doing something right, so I want see what really happened.

I take everything with a grain of salt. I’m not moved by reports, and you need to find your own results. So, I want to hear everything from them, and figure out what’s really going on. We had some issues with Demetrius, and the school zones in Florida, so I understand that everyone makes mistakes. Sometimes you need mistakes to learn from, and grow from.

TOM: Does this visit change anything with Demetrius, as far as his top schools?

MRS HART: I’ll say this, I would say that they received a whole lot of brownie points with this visit. And, we’ll be back soon. You have to go somewhere you feel loved and supported, and I know he would get that here.

TOM: Will he be deciding anytime soon?

MRS HART: It’s going to be soon. Within a month.

*[Ed. note: There's been some confusion as to whether Hart's mom or aunt was accompanying him on his visit. The answer is "both": Hart was adopted by his aunt.]

Wow, straight to the source. You will one day be a legend in the recruiting world, TomVH. The Mel Kiper of College Football recruiting.

Also, to clarify, his mom is technically his aunt. They adopted him, but they very much so consider themselves his parents. He calls her mom, so it's probably appropriate to do so, as well.

I think you mean snake oil and yes I really, really hope he does. The last time RRod used the snake oil we got Roundtree and we saw his potential last year. Hart just fits this offense so well that I'm giddy in anticipation. Does Hart's mom (aunt) know that she is being stalked by all of us Michigan fans?

Now RR, you sit your ass down with Hat's Mom and give her the truth. Her son will be loved here and we are all dying to have him as part of the family. So glad to hear this news.

Do Hart's upcoming other visits fall within this one month timeline? Would be great if not. She seems very genuine and clear and supportive about her son's future. Hart sounds like a Michigan Man... TomVH, you are a Michigan Man!

Let me add my voice to the thundering acclaim for the remarkable work of Tom VH. This interview with Dee Hart's Mom is exactly the recruiting scoop that we craved. I don't know what goes on behind the pay walls but it cannot be any better than the incredible information and insight that we receive from Tom. My gratitude abounds.

Mrs. Hart seems like a very intelligent woman who has all the right intentions for her son. By her answers she seems like a very reasonable woman as well who makes her own decisions based on the info she gathers and not what is heard or read through the media outlets. That seems as though it would have to be a positive for us right now. I hope that he decides to come to Michigan but whatever decision he and his family makes it sounds like he will be just fine judging from the values ans morals his mother has raised him with and that is the type of kids we want.

First of all, Dee Hart is a lucky kid to have his mother so genuinely concerned about his well-being. So many parents talk about where their kid will have the best shot at playing time or who will give them the best chance at the pro's. Dee Hart's mom has her priorities lined up and really cares about her son's honest well being. Well Done, Mom. Secondly, this has to be good news for us. It sounds like this trip was great for the Harts and could go a long ways toward getting Dee in M&B. Also, Ricardo Miller's family living in AA sounds like a MAJOR selling point. As always, great work Tom.

Wow, great interview Tom. Mrs Hart sounds like an intelligent woman who truly cares about her son. I hope Dee decides to come to Michigan, but as stated above, if not I have no doubt that it's the right decision for him and his family. He is a truly special player, and it seems that he has a truly special family as well.

There's only so many more visits you can make during the end of the school year. With his decision coming "within a month" you have to feel pretty good about our chances with him.

I'm really impressed with this women. She sounds like a great parent that really does want what's best for her child's well-being and not just what's best for his football career. She and her son would make great additions to the Michigan family. I hope he decides to come our way, but if not, I wish the best for both of them.

I love how many times I've read quotes from recruits saying Coach Rodriguez makes them feel like their part of a family up here. I really hope the Hart family becomes part of the Michigan family. Not to mention Demetrius would have a chance to contribute immediately, kid is a stud.

Great interview Tom! In my (admittedly limited) knowledge, it sounds like both Ricardo and Demetrius have the type of family support and structure that many can only dream of. +1 to the Harts, +1 to the Millers, whatever you're doing, keep it up. Hope to see him in the Maize and Blue but best wishes where ever he may go.

1) Demetrius Hart's mom seems like an intelligent woman, and a great mother at that. Her comments show that she has raised her son right, and that they (the Hart family) are approaching the recruiting process like everyone should be. After reading this interview, I want Demetrius in Ann Arbor next year even more. All things football aside, you've gotta feel good about a kid with this type of leadership at home. COME TO MICHIGAN!! 2) I liked what I heard about the interview. Hopefully we can make an even better impression on her before she leaves. I feel very good about what I'm hearing, and this is coming from someone just as important as Demetrius himself - his mom. Great day today, in my opinion. I am so happy to have read this interview and I hope that she walks away feeling that Michigan is the best place for her son. 3) TOM VH - YOU ARE A PIMP. When I saw "Interview with Demetrius Hart's Mom", I thought it was some type of joke....but nevertheless, MGoBlog's version of Superman makes it happen. Great reporting, we can't thank you enough. Tom VH, I give you permission to bed Megan Fox after I'm done with her.

Unbelievable that BTN would keep the softball game going - especially without some type of scroll on the bottom of the screen. I can't believe their advertisers would let this fly... what kind of amateurs are running this network?
