Missed opportunity imo
The double squeeze is my favorite play in all of sports. I think we ran it 3x in my 200 game college career. Worked once and I’ll never forget it. It’s crushing to give up 2 runs on a bunt.
Part of the reason I love it so much is it requires the perfect set of circumstances in order to even attempt (2nd and 3rd with less than 2 outs and infield pulled in so runner on second can get a bigger lead/steal without being noticed). Then requires perfect execution and cooperation from the pitcher to pull off. Because of all of that it is exceedingly rare.
I played for Coach Reader at good old Pinckney High and he was the king of smallball and the suicide squeeze. We pulled this off multiple times-would do it with the bases loaded as well. One time we scored three and had a runner on third-as the throw to first sailed down the right field line. What a riot!
I was following the game on my computer-without video. When a right handed pinch hitter was brought in for Velasquez I was very suspicious. And not even a play at the plate! Outstanding execution and coaching!
Very impressive offensive baseball. Baserunning is so often neglected in today's wait for the home run, station to station play. Love this team's speed-and how they capitalize on its usage.
Given the ups and downs of this team this year I would never have predicted this. Going forward...with the pitching looking as though it is improving...???
