Running away from State College with a dub like [Patrick Barron]

Hey! I took that photo! And if you follow me on social media, you probably know me as a crazy bear photographer. Well what if I told you that you could go on the adventure of a lifetime and take a photo just like this? Well you most certainly can!

I am partnering with Open Sky Expeditions, a team of travel experts that specialize in small-group photography journeys & expeditions to compelling destinations all around the world. They’re not just experts at what they do (and photographers themselves); Open Sky is also co-run by Ann Arbor native, diehard Wolverine, and Michigan grad, Temu Nana (LSA ’03).

Next summer—from August 12-20, 2024—I’ll be joining Temu & an expert bear guide on an expedition to one of my favorite places in the world: Katmai National Park, Alaska. There, amidst stunning landscapes only accessible by boat or float plane (and we’ll use both), you can be up close with coastal brown bears as they fatten up for the winter. And to top it all off, you can learn wildlife photography from yours truly! I will be joining as a photo instructor, seriously excited to share my experience and passion for wildlife photography (and hopefully show some of you that it's not as crazy as it sounds). And of course, I'm happy to talk about all my tales of covering Michigan football as well (Temu, as you’ll also see, is as obsessed a fan as the rest of us). Katmai truly is a magical place and one that I visit every year. To walk amongst the bears there is one of the greatest experiences I've ever had and I'm excited to share that experience.

Check out their website for more information on the trip: Open Sky Expeditions Katmai Trip

Scroll down that link a bit to see some of the awesome photos (there are also otters).

If Alaska isn't your thing, they also host trips to Machu Picchu, Morocco, Chile, Antarctica, Norway, the Galapagos Islands, and many more. Check out their website, check out their photos, and prepare for the adventure of a lifetime!

We are the storm

The one who knocks [Patrick Barron]

Well, the season has started.

From the moment I stepped onto the field to watch warm-ups I could tell the energy of this team was unlike anything I’ve seen this season. We knew this would be a season defining game back in August, but with Jim Harbaugh supposedly waiting somewhere outside the stadium for a final decision on whether or not he’d even be allowed to attend, this became more. There would be no middle ground to the narrative in this one way or another. Lose and the Big Ten office that seems oh so poised to burn down your foundation get what they want. Win and you get to spite them for one more week.

From the opening drive it was clear what Michigan was pissed and ready to do something about it.

You know what else is a player safety issue?. AN ANGRY KENNETH GRANT. [Patrick Barron]

That man, Kenneth Grant, came out on the first play and burst through the line for a TFL and gave a mighty roar. He also OUTRAN A RUNNING BACK. WHY DID YOU ANGER THIS MAN, BIG TEN?

Went from 100,000 screaming Penn State fans to one screaming wolverine [Patrick Barron]

On Michigan's first touchdown, AJ Barner gave out the same roar.

I have seen your signs and I don't want them [Patrick Barron]

JJ got in a jab with a little binoculars celebration.

Dude [Patrick Barron]

By the end of the game, the takeover was complete. There was no "sign stealing advantage", Michigan was without their head coach, and Penn State on the road ain't a nobody.

James Franklin now has a losing record to Brady Hoke, Jim Harbaugh, and Sherrone Moore [Patrick Barron]

Penn State is genuinely one of my favorite places to shoot a game at (also my least favorite to get to and from). The energy is so electric but by the end of the game, Michigan and its fans captivated the energy and emotion of this game.

As Trevor Keegan stated: "The storm is coming? No, we are the storm."

About the Photographer

If you'd like to support us, one of the simplest things you can do is follow us on social media (links just below) where we post way more photos than here. In the offseason I also do a LOT of wildlife/national park photography. While we're not allowed to sell any of our sports photos per our credential agreement (sorry to anyone who reached out asking about one), I sell prints from my adventures which I sell on FineArtAmerica. You can buy prints (or just look at some pretty pictures) here: Patrick Barron Art Collections Or if you'd like, you can simply support me by buying me a coffee!

[Which article of clothing did Penn State remove from Donovan Edwards after THE JUMP]

Who [steals] a shoe? Honestly [Patrick Barron]
Shout out to Donovan Edwards, who has been shoe string tackled all season, for finding a reasonable solution to that problem. [Patrick Barron]
My button has a lot of people asking questions already answered by my button. [Patrick Barron]
Me and Alejandro were mortified at the realization that some of the players in this game were born **after** this film came out [Patrick Barron]
Aww what a cute little Penn State Simba doll :) Anyways sorry bud, much like the movie we're about to kill your dad. Maybe you shouldn't have sang a whole song about how excited you were for that to happen. [Patrick Barron]
*Laughs nervously in conservation* [Patrick Barron]
In nature, black and yellow is a sign of danger. Blue and white is like one of those fake bees. Hoverflies. Penn State stripeout is the hoverflies of home field advantages. [Patrick Barron]
Donovan Edwards tossed the ball my direction during his touchdown celebration and it hit my camera. He scored a touchdown though so I forgive him (and the camera is fine). [Patrick Barron]
Brandon Graham and a plus one in attendance. [Patrick Barron]
This is what it looks like when walruses fight. [Patrick Barron]
There was a sequence in the first half where NOBODY was covering AJ Barner and he was SCREAMING at JJ to throw the ball at him. But it was too loud and JJ didn't hear him and ended up handing it off to Donovan Edwards. [Patrick Barron]

Anyways, AJ Barner's screaming would've worked in the second half. [Patrick Barron]

First a question -- with shots of people in the stands, is there any requirement to get a release to publish, or is it covered under a "no reasonable expectation of privacy" thing?  Just curious ...

Second ... I went through the full album, and this one jumped out at me:

I really like the sense of explosive potential in Edwards' body there.  Colston Loveland slightly out of focus in the foreground adds to the tension.  This is a great shot.

Check the fine print on the back of the ticket. The closest thing I had at hand was an M basketball ticket from Crisler, which states that the Holder grants permission to use Holder's image and likeliness in recordings and photographs etc. So basically showing up means you're consenting to having your picture taken.

Some really great shots in here. I especially love seeing how many M fans made their way to the tunnel after the game - probably felt pretty nice for a bunch of guys feeling attacked and pressured all week. Love seeing the support the team and staff are getting

This photo was so good I updated it to my profile pic. Thanks for your amazing work as always, Patrick!

The narrative is absurd. osu beating nd turned out to be a meh win. Their win over Penn state is meh too, in my opinion. Penn state's offense is atrocious. I think it said a lot that we were able to essentially shut down the offense and grind them to dust on their own field. However, there is this narrative that osu at home averaging 2 yards a carry, was impressive enough coupled with the nd win to put them at #1. GTFOH, it can't be impressive for one team and not for another. We are going to destroy osu this year. They know and that's why all this fiasco was started in the first place. Can't wait to see Day cry. Fuck that guy.

BREAKING NEWS: The Big 10 Commissioner has suspended Michigan Photographer extraordinaire Blue Barron under the Big Ten’s sportsmanship policy by providing in person scouting and accepting coffee for his services.

In all seriousness, Blue Barron does an incredible job every week. I’m always amazed at how he’s able to capture the feel of the game and provide so many iconic images.

Does anyone know where Tony P was this weekend? He is usually at a B1G game. If he were elsewhere (maybe MSU and Ohio night game) I'm sure he stayed away from any photographers.

Baby Graham has a determined look on his face like he’s staring into the soul of the QB before the snap making him realize he’s going to get sacked.
