OT: Wolverine: Chasing the Phantom on Netflix
The PBS nature documentary Wolverine: Chasing the Phantom that premiered back in November is now available on Netflix Watch Instantly, for those of you with a subscription. I myself am about to watch it right now (rather than study for my artificial intelligence midterm, that is).
Enjoy!

Hate to be the first responder to my own thread, but this documentary is badass already and I am only 7 minutes into it.
EDIT: Yessssss, not the first!

"Not First!" post in Internet history....

I seriously thought about posting a thread on this, but was too lazy. Big imaginary +1 coming your way. It showed up on my "Top picks for you". Weird... I dont know why. /s

If you don't have a Netflix account you can watch it at PBS online for free.

Everyone should have a netflix account.

Sorry, poor college student. My discretionary budget goes mainly towards burritos and gasoline.
February 11th, 2011 at 12:49 AM ^
Ha, I'd normally be with you there... but I get many hours of viewing out of my subscription. Family Guy makes for great background noise during study sessions (I have literally watched all of the available episodes probably 5 times or so), so I definitely get my $12 a months worth (blu-rays too)

By eating the burritos you get the gas as a byproduct, good job managing your money.

...have an account, sign in to theirs. That's what my college student kids do.

Netflix stock sure has been pretty darn impressive to watch.

I keep thinking I should sell... then it goes up another 10%
February 11th, 2011 at 8:58 AM ^
... I used to say the same thing in 2000 about my internet stocks.
February 11th, 2011 at 10:02 AM ^
yup, I know. Been there... didn't sell that.
I'm a terrible seller. Still hurting from buying lots of Apple at $10 and selling at $100.
Now I'm holding on to Chipotle, Netflix and ARM for probably too long.
February 11th, 2011 at 12:51 PM ^
... buying at 10 and selling at $100 is terrible. You could have dont a lot worse during that timeframe.

Trade with a stop loss or hedge with puts
Don't get greedy. You should have a double or triple or more in those stocks. Sell half and play with the house's money.

Watched this the other night on Netflix. Lots of cool information on Wolverines that I never knew about. The scientists said that one of the wolverines they tagged climbed 5000 ft to a peak of a mountain in about 90 minutes, amazing. That and they'll eat bones...freakin' bones man!

"That and they'll eat bones...freakin' bones man!"
How else are you going to get that sweet, sweet marrow?

First off, Netflickers is the shiz. For serious movie watchers nothing compares. Second, Chasing the Phantom was well worth staying up til 4:30am to watch. Any Michigan athletes with a lack of drive and enthusiasm needs to watch this documentary to learn how to channel their inner Wolverine.
A single Wolverine can take down a moose, that would be comparable to a house cat taking down a deer. I've never been prouder to have the Wolverine as our mascot.

true wolverines can travel from San Diego to Michigan by foot, undaunted by the Rockies, just to give a presser and expect no
<br>compensation.

It's awesome to see that guy raise and play with the two the way he does, it makes me want one badly. I don't remember hearing about the Wolverine spotted in Michigan in 2004, but they said 5 years later he is still there and doing good. So at least up until 2 years ago there was a Wolverine here, I hope that guy is still here doing well. I don't know what I'd do if I was out in the back country and spotted one, it would be an amazing experience. Thanks for posting this again, I really enjoyed it.

SHE passed away from natural causes last year. The DNR did do an autopsy (or rather what ever you call it on an animal). They estimated her age around 8. They surmissedd that she spent here time in the Thumb area, probably going backand forth between Canada and Michigan.

I did not know that, thats to bad. Thanks for the update though.

If you liked the show, you should also pick up the book "The Wolverine Way" by Doug Chadwick. He was part of the Glacier Mountain Group and has a great deal of insight into the wolverine. Not only will a wolverine take down a moose but they have on occasion chased bears away from their prey. and I believe the wolverine to climb that mountain was M3 and he was a badass. Apparently his sister climbed another of the mountains.

Yeah they mentioned the wolverine takig down a moose during the show, and how it climbed a 5000 ft mountain in 90 mins, thats just insane. But I will definitely check that book out, thank you for that. Everytime I've gone to the Detroit Zoo the wolverine exhibit is the first think I go see, haven't been there a good 3-4 years though. The wolverine is just so damn awesome,

This was one of my favorites on your site. I passed it on to a few of my friends.

Somewhat related:
The HBO special "Ohio State v. Michigan: The Rivalry" is also available on Netflix streaming.

The Ohio guy liked that one. ;-)

I actually haven't seen it yet (i know, i know)... just put it on my queue.
I'm trying to figure out how Netflix knew to recommend it to me.

Just click on the PBS link above, because I don't have netflix either. Thats how I watched it, and the quality was good with no commercials.

I love that bit about the attitude of a wolverine. The professor said a wolverine will look a grizzly bear in the face and say to himself I think I can take him he's a wuss. That's awesome!
