OT: Wolverine: Chasing the Phantom on Netflix

Submitted by Deep Under Cover on

The PBS nature documentary Wolverine: Chasing the Phantom that premiered back in November is now available on Netflix Watch Instantly, for those of you with a subscription.  I myself am about to watch it right now (rather than study for my artificial intelligence midterm, that is).

Enjoy!

I seriously thought about posting a thread on this, but was too lazy. Big imaginary +1 coming your way.   It showed up on my "Top picks for you".  Weird... I dont know why. /s

Watched this the other night on Netflix. Lots of cool information on Wolverines that I never knew about. The scientists said that one of the wolverines they tagged climbed 5000 ft to a peak of a mountain in about 90 minutes, amazing. That and they'll eat bones...freakin' bones man!

First off, Netflickers is the shiz.  For serious movie watchers nothing compares.  Second, Chasing the Phantom was well worth staying up til 4:30am to watch.  Any Michigan athletes with a lack of drive and enthusiasm needs to watch this documentary to learn how to channel their inner Wolverine.

A single Wolverine can take down a moose, that would be comparable to a house cat taking down a deer.  I've never been prouder to have the Wolverine as our mascot.

It's awesome to see that guy raise and play with the two the way he does, it makes me want one badly. I don't remember hearing about the Wolverine spotted in Michigan in 2004, but they said 5 years later he is still there and doing good. So at least up until 2 years ago there was a Wolverine here, I hope that guy is still here doing well. I don't know what I'd do if I was out in the back country and spotted one, it would be an amazing experience. Thanks for posting this again, I really enjoyed it.

SHE passed away from natural causes last year.  The DNR did do an autopsy (or rather what ever you call it on an animal).  They estimated her age around 8.  They surmissedd that she spent here time in the Thumb area, probably going backand forth between Canada and Michigan.

If you liked the show, you should also pick up the book "The Wolverine Way" by Doug Chadwick.   He was part of the Glacier Mountain Group and has a great deal of insight into the wolverine.  Not only will a wolverine take down a moose but they have on occasion chased bears away from their prey.    and I believe the wolverine to climb that mountain was M3 and he was a badass.  Apparently his sister climbed another of the mountains.

Yeah they mentioned the wolverine takig down a moose during the show, and how it climbed a 5000 ft mountain in 90 mins, thats just insane. But I will definitely check that book out, thank you for that. Everytime I've gone to the Detroit Zoo the wolverine exhibit is the first think I go see, haven't been there a good 3-4 years though.  The wolverine is just so damn awesome,

I love that bit about the attitude of a wolverine. The professor said a wolverine will look a grizzly bear in the face and say to himself I think I can take him he's a wuss. That's awesome!
