2010 football season predictions
Right before last year's season started there was an MGoBoard contest with many folks predicting the team's final record, with some kind of point award promised to those who hit the number.
I was one of those who predicted the 7-6 record and am wondering how many folks tied me (there probably were a bunch) and when the results will be tallied and points awarded. I know things have been just a tad busy after the season ended.
My early prediction for 2011: 10-3 (upsets against ND and OSU, losses against Nebraska and MSU and one upset loss, plus a bowl win in the Citrus vs. Florida)

13-0 National Championship!!!
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:04 AM ^
And I do have faith that we will win a NC this decade.

That game was truly awesome, I love beating ND!
I DVR'd it and have gone back and watched it at least 3-4 times.
Now we need to resume the dominance over lil-bro, wisky and Iowa.
As well as starting a new 10 year war with tsio.
Go Blue!
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:10 AM ^
But you curiously didn't mention how we'd do in the 14th game, the BCS title....keeping us in suspense?
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:48 AM ^
Probably just waiting for another team to get on our level before seeing how much we'll beat them by.
January 23rd, 2011 at 11:58 AM ^
counting the win at the first-ever Big Ten Championship game to be played in Indianapolis on Dec 3.
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:05 AM ^
8-5. With a bowl win. And a top 15 recruiting class.
Progress my friends, progress.
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:38 AM ^
11-2....wins vs OSU/MSU/Nebraska. Losses to ND and Wisconsin...I think well end up with Top 5 Recruiting class with all the talent in the Midwest, esp. Michigan. I think well start off a little slow, thus having the loss to ND, but well finish very very strong as our D gets better and better under Hoke/Mattison. Either way I hope were 13-0, but im trying to be as realistic as possible.
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:41 AM ^
Edit to my post....forgot we dont play wisconsin so 12-1 and Big ten championship victory over OSU!! We beat them twice in one year!!!

January 23rd, 2011 at 10:05 AM ^
I agree, 10-3.
January 23rd, 2011 at 11:57 AM ^
I agree with the 10-3 record, there will be some adjustments in Denards game, but with a early win vs. ND, things look very good next season!
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:07 AM ^
I predicted 6-7 last year, so I was a bit off.
This year, 8-5.
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:11 PM ^
I'm hoping our record will just be an extra win instead of the inverse of your prediction.
January 23rd, 2011 at 3:03 PM ^
You don't have to worry about that since 5-8 isn't actually possible
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:08 AM ^
but with wins against ND, O$U, and MSU. But loses against Nebraska and a lose against Oregon in the Rose Bowl
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:00 PM ^
IF Nebraska plays as well in the latter part of the season, next year as they did this year, we should be able to walk away with a victory.
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:10 AM ^
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:14 AM ^
...how much work lies ahead in this offensive transition.
IMO, getting 7 wins would be a significant accomplishment.
This would be a good question to ask again after the spring game, and seeing if it looks like chaos or football.
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:16 AM ^
No wisy or psu and neb, nd, osu at home with 2 mac schools
January 23rd, 2011 at 11:14 AM ^
Honestly, we don't know what kind of offense we'll be running next year. If Denard is under center with a couple designed QB runs, then yes, seven would be an accomplishment. But if we can run some kind of hybrid (thinking Auburn[ish]) then we're going to have a much higher ceiling.

Rose Bowl vs Ore st. 21-0 (13-1)
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:16 AM ^
You think SDSU puts 24 up on us? And that Ore. St will be in the Rose Bowl? Not disagreeing with you, but that's interesting
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:24 AM ^
Is definitely breaking with the norm. I figure Stanford's probably the North favorite, w/UCLA or ASU being the South favorite - but expected to be a sacrificial lamb for Stanford in the Pac12 Title Game
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:33 AM ^
SDSU is losing their QB and top 2 WRs I believe. Pretty good RB, but I think they'll take a step back, especially without Borges.
I would have picked Stanford...but Oregon could stumble along the way...ASU's on the rise..even 'Zona
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:58 AM ^
Washington's year was supposed to be last year, and I think Oregon is losing a ton of folks, so it's not crazy to think Oregon State makes some noise in the North. But I think Stanford has got to be the favorite, for both the division and the league.
Also didn't realize SDSU graduated that much talent - makes me feel a heck of a lot better about that game
January 24th, 2011 at 11:02 AM ^
Oregon is losing some talent on defense, Casey Matthews in particular, but they're loaded at the skill positions. LaMichael James is back at RB, Darrin Thomas is back at QB, and they have this RS freshman RB, Lache Seastrunk, that you might have heard of. Even though Luck returns, I still think Oregon is a better football team. I think Oregon's losses don't hurt as much as losing a head coach.
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:25 PM ^
why is Ryan Lindley not playing QB for SDSU next year? He is listed as a junior on the roster this year.......
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:31 PM ^
Also interesting that our terrible defense from last year is only going to give up 21 tds this year. I expect improvement but this seems a bit unreasonable. Also giving up 3 tds to SDSU, but only 1 in 2 meetings with OSU with seniors in Pryor, Posey, Herron, and on the OL. Not so fast my friend...
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:20 AM ^
Would be INSANE.
Hoke 2, Tressel 0
Hoke and Michigan with perfect records in Big Ten championship game. I wish it were August.
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:06 PM ^
I'm more impressed that this hypothetical miracle team held OSU under 10 points twice. Michigan has held OSU under 20 only twice in the past decade, and lost both times. Michigan might beat OSU this year, maybe twice, but I think someone has spiked the Kool-Aid WRT the defensive performance.
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:30 PM ^
+1 for the logic and rationality.
January 23rd, 2011 at 12:31 PM ^
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:15 AM ^
I said 6-7 at the beginning of the year. I predict 8-5 (including a bowl win) in 2011.
January 23rd, 2011 at 11:01 AM ^
Losses to ND (who I think will be pretty good), NW (who's always feisty) followed up with upsets of MSU and Nebraska, before a loss to Ohio keeps us from being Champions of the West. Not sure how deep the SEC will be next year, or whether M or Nebraska will get a BCS at large spot, so I'm copping out of predicting the bowl game.
But it's progress, and we all get really excited for 2012 with a senior Denardening.
EDIT: I predicted 8-4 for 2010, pending a bowl game (I guess I like to cop out of the bowl game)
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:21 AM ^
with bowl win and a 2nd place in our division but setting the bar for the 2012 season
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:32 AM ^
I say 9-3 should be 10-2 but will probably lose one that we shouldn't
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:41 AM ^
10-2 + a bowl game win. sounds about right, but only if the defense makes the strides it needs to be at least average. Of course, I would have said about the same with RR coming back and a new DC, so...yeah. Good year
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:44 AM ^
If we could hit 9 - 3 with a bowl game win that would be HUGE for the program!
I am sure I am not the only one who is getting very excited for the upcoming season and we are still 8 months away!
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:45 AM ^
I could be happy with a 1-11 season, if that 1 was MSu

Some tough games to end of the season. A win over OSU in AA is definitley possible. I've never been impressed with Pryor and Hoke will have them ready to play. A lot will depend on how much the defense improves throughout the season.
January 23rd, 2011 at 11:18 AM ^
Pryor is going to have a lot of questions to answer. I think if him and Tressel try to prove that he's an NFL drop-back quarterback then we should be fine. If Pryor just wants to impress and Tressel lets him, a lot of teams are going to be in for long days against that offense.

7 and 6 with great frustration.
For 2011 I predict less frustration and a couple more wins. 9 - 4
Beat MSU and Iowa, but can't beat Tosu this year.
I would trade 5 wins for a win over Tosu. Living in Columbus while there winning really is not much fun.
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:54 AM ^
I appreciate the optimism around here, but the offense is going to have some issues with the transition and the defense should be better (how could it be any worse?), but not sure the team will be ready to beat Iowa, Nebraska, or OSU this year. MSU will be in East Lansing, so that is a tough one to win, too. First five games at home sure helps and they definitely have a shot at ND. ND is getting better, but they are young, too. After 5 home games, the first road game at NU could be bumpy. Dan Persa should be the first versatile, athletic spread QB they play against.
