Recruiting - Where are we right now?
Alright, so it sounds like we've sort of now seen what there is to see as far as decommitments etc and we know that:
1) We currently have 10 solid commitments now that Goudis and Crawford switched their commitments and are gone, and Fisher is decommitted and nothing more than a possibility.
2) D. Hart (alabama) K. Frost (Auburn has now accepted his commitment) Crawford & Goudis (Miami) and the linebacker from last year Kinard (Miami) are all gone and not possiblities.
3) The new staff told Devin Lucien they were only interested in him for defense and he subsequently cut us.
So who's really left out there thats actually been offered and isn't a complete pipe dream (see Jernigan etc that have neither been visited or mentioned in a while and certainly not since the coaching change).
1) Stefan McClure, CB from California coming in to visit this weekend
2) Frank Clark, LB from Cleveland Glenville visiting this weekend
3) Raymon Taylor, in-state ATH also visiting this weekend
4) Matt Wile, K from San Diego also visiting this weekend
5) Fisher - our former lineman commit
6) Thomas Rawls - the RB from Flint area with test score issues.
7) Chris Bryant - OL from Chicago who visited this past weekend.
Is there anyone else seriously considering us?

Floyd Raven though he hasn't scheduled a visit yet. Maybe Pat Flavin, as well.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:48 PM ^
Flavin hasn't been offered though has he?
January 18th, 2011 at 1:52 PM ^
Probably might be telling after Hoke's in-house with Fisher.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:56 PM ^
Hopefully that's the case.
January 18th, 2011 at 3:34 PM ^
Do you know when this will happen?
January 18th, 2011 at 3:56 PM ^
Your screen name makes me laugh every time I see it, AND it pretty much sums up the state of our recruiting right now.
Put me in the "still hokeful" group though.

He told you "Michigan still has a shot" via Facebook message TODAY?
January 18th, 2011 at 3:51 PM ^
also, since you have like 12 points, screenshot?
January 18th, 2011 at 10:06 PM ^
= no credibility around here?
January 18th, 2011 at 4:00 PM ^
is in personal contact with one of our top prospects? Dude, where in the hell have YOU been when we needed you? Seriously, is this for real?
Oh, and welcome aboard.

Flowers
January 18th, 2011 at 2:05 PM ^
He's a huge possibility that nobody seems to be taking about in any other thread today. With his offer sheet I'd expect him to at least be somewhere in the scout 300
January 18th, 2011 at 2:30 PM ^
Everyone should be talking about him. He announces on the 23rd.

for everytime I heard that, I would have many dollars. Hope you're correct
January 18th, 2011 at 3:40 PM ^
but finally, for the first time in a long time, stability.
January 18th, 2011 at 5:13 PM ^
Don't speak too soon...
January 18th, 2011 at 4:07 PM ^
that was titled Flowers wilted for Michigan. Perhaps it was a typical teaser headline, but didn't exactly sound good for Michigan.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:49 PM ^
The positive thing going foward is that we have a lot of sophmores and freshman that got playing time this year so this class coming in won't hurt to bad until 2015. By then hokefully we have had some stud recruiting classes to make this class (2011) not a total wash.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:53 PM ^
but I'm already sick of the hope/hoke thing especially from our own fan base.
I know I know I better get used to it.

I am!
January 18th, 2011 at 2:54 PM ^
barely scratched the surface
January 18th, 2011 at 1:56 PM ^
It'll hurt well before 2015. Remember, most of these freshman and sophomores aren't redshirts. So they will be done by 2013 or 2014. The lack of upperclassmen from this class is going to start to hurt around 2013, and will really start to be a problem by 2014. We'll need to have homerun classes in 2012 and 2013 to make up for it.
January 18th, 2011 at 2:00 PM ^
Not necessarily. This class was never going to be more than about twenty players. If Hoke gets 15-17 guys, we'll be alright.
Like you said, though, we need really good classes in 2012 and 2013. There's a lot of good talent in Michigan in the 2012 class. Hoke said recruiting starts in Michigan, so we'll find out quickly how much he meant it.
January 18th, 2011 at 8:08 PM ^
Good shot at >15 players + tons of freshman/sophomores + bumper crop in 2012 class = very OK.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:50 PM ^
The WR Flowers is considering us.
January 18th, 2011 at 5:15 PM ^
Cool thanks for the info.
January 18th, 2011 at 10:13 PM ^
Yes, but it would appear that the coaching staff is focused, and rightly so, on the D. We are pretty deep at WR which is why Hoke tried to get Lucien to switch to DB. Not to metion Flowers is only a 3* recruit. So not a big loss is he goes elsewhere.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:50 PM ^
Being Coach Hoke just accepted the job last week. DB put him in a tough spot, but Coach Hoke and limited staff have done a pretty good job. It could certainly be a'lot worse.
On paper it won't have anything to do with the current recruiting class, but Coach Hoke keeping Denard on board was huge.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:53 PM ^
Very true...keeping Denard was EXTREMELY important but..........
1) Tate sounds like he's gone (though not of his choosing).
2) I haven't heard a peep about whether Devin Gardner is staying or going beyond those tweets the day Hoke was announced saying "I'm Gone" and questionable commentary as to what he was talking about. Even if he stays, we're down to two QBs.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:57 PM ^
Gardner is staying. His remarks regarding Hoke show support for the team and university.
January 18th, 2011 at 2:00 PM ^
I havent heard a word, from anyone, that Devin would leave. If anything, I think the pro-style fits him better.
January 18th, 2011 at 2:16 PM ^
With that bad back I don't think Devin should think about moving at all. He's in traction. SPINAL!!!
January 18th, 2011 at 3:54 PM ^
Last week Tate's dad was trying to get him re-enrolled. While DR is the QB, it would be great to have Tatre as a back-up. What is the status?
January 18th, 2011 at 1:51 PM ^
One of the sites indicated he's why we said no on Lucien.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:51 PM ^
Recruiting is an up and down phenomenon. Look at Miami. 2 weeks ago they were at the bottom and now they are beginning to clean up (at our expense perhaps).
We still have 2 weeks left with 2 big visit weekends left. Here are some things to consider:
- We find new names popping up every day with regards to Hoke's recruiting
- Last year, guys like Black came out of nowhere late in the process. It happens every year.
- There are some players who love Michigan but weren't a fan of the spread (Ray Hamilton). We might have a chance at these guys now.
I'd say this morning was the absolute nadir of our coaching U curve. It's coming back up. We'll get 15 commitments for a team that is only losing maybe 10 contributors. So this class wasn't supposed to be that huge anyway. It's 2012 where we will make our huge impact.
Stay the course, people. Stay the course.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:53 PM ^
Even if we close pretty well, there's almost no chance we finish with a top 25 class, and one class really can screw you (the epic fail that was the Mallett/Donovan Warren class caused major problems when those guys were supposed to be seniors).
It's not fatal or anything, but this is something that they'll have to find a way to dig out of.
January 18th, 2011 at 2:54 PM ^
Nonsense -- RichRod and his incompetent staff just failed to "coach up" those players.

Never understood that...a 25 player class with an average 3.5 star rating finishes higher than a 15 player class with a 3.8 average, regardless of team needs..
January 18th, 2011 at 11:57 PM ^
No - this makes perfect sense. Using your example - let's say there are two classes - Class A has 10 four stars and 5 three stars. Class B has those same 15 guys, plus has 3 more four stars and 7 more three stars.
Class A has a 3.66 star average, and Class B is 3.52. The first 15 on both teams have presumably the same probability of being good players. However the 10 extra players in Class B have some probability of being good as well, and those empty slots in Class A have zero chance.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:55 PM ^
I needed that.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:51 PM ^
Fucked. That's where we are.
January 18th, 2011 at 1:59 PM ^
I don't think that does appropriate justice to our situation. FUBAR might be a bit better. Really, I think jhackney needs to pull out his nuke again. That'll truly demonstrate our situation.
January 18th, 2011 at 2:13 PM ^
Im riding in your guys' boat. I like the hire .. but DB screwed Hoke by waiting so long ...
January 18th, 2011 at 10:31 PM ^
I keep hearing this comment over and over about how DB's waiting screwed our recruting. It's not surprising since the media is perpetuating it. Is our recruiting screwed right now? Absolutely. But this isn't something that we can lay at the feet of DB. It's not his fault. It just is what it is. What many fail to see is that in order for DB to interview JH and LM and BH, coaches under current contracts with major Universities, he would need to get permission to speak with those coaches. Doing this in December means that he would need to get that approval from the AD's/President's, while those coaches are preparing for bowl games to represent their respective Universities on a national platform. Who, in their right mind would give that permission to DB at that time of the year? You have to wait until January in order to have a legitimate chance to interview those candidates.
January 18th, 2011 at 11:43 PM ^
I'm pretty sure DB never asked for permission top speak to Hoke...
