MGoBlog has jumped the shark?

So I was busy last night and missed checking this board. When I checked in this morning, I read through maybe the 16th thread about whether Tate or Denard is going to be a better Quarterback. Followed by the 20th thread or so debating the burning issue of who is fastest between the two. And another positing the simply ludicrous notion that "Tate isn't getting his props," when a main feature of this board is unbridled enthusiasm for Tate and his prospects. Oh, and the lack of "props" is apparently based upon the notion that we underestimate how fucking fast Tate is. Out of approx. 85 replies I saw only a couple debating the relevance of the entire premise. Several of the above were started by the same posters, one of whom is apparently A-obsessed with the importance of speed at QB, B- a stone loon, or C- a troll, or of course D- all of these. My faith in our community has been shaken. This board, alone among the boards I frequent regarding sports and M sports, has been a beacon of wit, intelligence and informed commentary. Of course there are exceptions. Certainly a sporadic debate about minor things is ok. But WTF? This board is the only board I actually enjoy reading. MLive and the Freep are full to the brim of fools and uninformed, raucous name calling. Et tu, mgoblog? So, resolved: We don't give a fuck about whether Tate or Denard is fastest because for a QB it simply does not matter. Anyone who says they know which of these two freshman will be better does not know what they are talking about. While not entirely predictive of success, there is more than enough evidence to validate that, on balance, recruiting ratings matter. New posters should be required to audit the board for 2 months before posting (emotional response based on the above) Or perhaps I'm wrong, in which case you will say so. EDIT: I Love Brian, Tom VH and guests. I also enjoy reading many of the regular posters. My post was concerned with the quality of posts, and maintaining what I think are the differences between mgoblog and mlive etc. that make this site so enjoyable, FWIW.

I wholeheartedly agree that the main draw is Brian’s writing and analysis. It’s the rare Radioactive Man #1 comic book in the store that everyone comes to look at and wants to read. (And yes, Brian is Comic Book Guy). But that’s not the only thing the store has to offer. There’s plenty of other comic books that are also entertaining and enjoyable to read.* I keep thinking back to this post, about the demise of newspapers and their inability to comprehend and adapt to the nature of the Internet. What caught my attention in particular was this description: “The things that live on the internet are communities, not institutions, and these communities are brought together by a shared love of something.” I agree with this. Maybe to take it a step further, just as MGoBlog exists because of Brian’s writing, in my epinion, it also exists because of its community on MGoBoard. And just as I am drawn here by Brian’s work for its writing, insight, perspective and humor, I tend to read the MGoBoard comments for similar reasons. I guess the point is, I see the community as something that adds value to (or detracts value from) the blog, and it plays a large part in my draw to MGoBlog.** So as MGoBoard becomes more of an annoyance than anything, I see it as something that diminishes MGoBlog overall. Sure, I’ll continue to come here to read Brian’s Radioactive Man #1, but it’s much less likely that I’ll stay to peruse the other comic books if they’re basically crap. And I completely agree with the second paragraph. * This isn’t the greatest analogy, but I love me The Simpsons, so I’m running with it. ** I am not asserting that I add any value to the blog personally. It’s just an observation.

• You're 21, straight, an A student, making 50K per year Translation: you're young, heterosexual, have gotten good grades, and are making 50K per year. • You've made 21 straight A's as a student and are making 50K per year No indication as to your sexuality, but you've compiled an impressive 21 consecutive A's in your courses as a student, and are also making 50K per year. • You are 21 straight A students, all making 50K per year You've set the record for academic achievement by people with multiple-personality disorder. My hat's off to you, but man, the work you must have to do at income tax time. And the cell phone bills for 21 people must be gigantic. Good luck.

"jumped the shark" is the new "where's the beef?". just a feeling...I think we are going to see "Qb-by-committee" this fall. This team is going to live or die with the O-line. 4-0 start this season. Hell...if Michigan could have held on to the ball on punts and kick offs alone last year they would have been 6-6. Wolverines should beat ND handily...provided Odoms, Warren, and co. have been treated for their near terminal cases of fumble-itis. GO BLUE! And go Huskies - bitch-slap FYState please. If they win it will be unbearable.

here it is... 2. Do not disparage recruits except in extraordinary circumstances. This goes quadruple for uncommitted recruits--a recent flagrant example on Rivals occurred when someone posted some idiocy about how he doubted Justin Boren's "love for Michigan" because he hadn't committed yet. Boren committed soon after and then expressed his love for Michigan. How do you feel now, anonymous internet moron? Pretty funny to read in retrospect, looks like aforementioned idiot ended up being spot-on. Obviously, taking this to heart is the equivalence of spending a billion dollars to purchase a random number generator that happened to pick the winning lottery numbers last week.

The best solution would be for each poster to type their posts, and then read it out loud. If you sound like an idiot, you should consider revising. If you've tried that multiple times and it still doesn't work, you should consider killing yourself for the betterment of the species... or just not posting at all EDIT:To be honest, I think the best solution would be to have every topic (not comment) go to an admin who filters out all of the double-posts/effusive idealism/non-sense, so we can at least peruse the topics in peace, if not the comments
