Coverage Map Ack
So HDSportsGuide posted the coverage maps, and I noticed a problem for out of market viewers getting the game on ESPN:
The game is in *gulp* standard definition on ESPN. Why?!?!? They have the HD cameras there for the ABC broadcast.
I suppose this is a fair warning to anyone that turns to ESPN HD to watch the game only to see ESPNEWS HD.
EDIT: The picture was in the post at first, but now it's not showing up for me. Unless it's just me, I guess you'll have to click the link to see the map.

Good thing I'm driving from DC to go to the game.
October 6th, 2010 at 5:57 PM ^
You're crazy, flying from DC at 6am on Saturday seemed like a better option for me.
October 6th, 2010 at 6:04 PM ^
Flying out of DC the morning of game day? Do you know the rate of on-time takeoffs out of that city? You're putting the chances of making the game on time in the hands of the airlines. That sounds crazy to me.

Unless the flight is 7 hours late I should be fine. Though I would be sober, which is a tragety in itself.

Driving isn't really that bad. At worst I get into Ann Arbor around 5am, take a power nap and then start tailgating bright and early

dude, dc to ann arbor is the most fun drive in all of usa
October 6th, 2010 at 7:26 PM ^
Wouldn't [anywhere] to Ann Arbor be the most fun drive? In the end you get to be in Ann Arbor.
I hear you though. It's beautiful going through the mountains.

DC to Ann Arbor is brutal. The Ohio Turnpike is possibly the most boring drive on the planet. Plus, the PA Turnpike is a white-knuckler the entire way. I've made that trip countless times and its not for me, no sir.
That said, the destination (AA) is spectacular and makes the drive a little easier. And the drive home is bearable after a big win . . .
October 7th, 2010 at 1:41 PM ^
I'm with you, the PA turnpike is almost as bad as driving through ohio. Plus, I can't get out of work early enough on Friday to beat rush hour.
There's another flight around 9er but I booked it before the game time was announced and didn't want to risk it if the game was a nooner. So I should be fine.

the curve in the yellow from west virginia through kentucky reminds me of the winged helmet - just sayin.

It's not about cameras, it is about satellite feeds. They don't have enough to cover all the games in HD. Usually its the ACC or big 12 game that is the sd feed, but this week its us.
Good thing I'll be there.

I'm not sure about the veracity of this. I live in NC, and my cable guide for ESPN HD says:
Clemson at North Carolina or Michigan State at Michigan
Why would ESPN HD show ESPNews instead of the game?
EDIT: Just saw jcgold's post above. Shit.October 7th, 2010 at 9:26 AM ^
That still doesn't make sense. Mich/MSU is the only high-profile game in the 3:30 timeslot. It should be in HD everywhere. Have you ever heard of them showing ESPNews on ESPN HD instead of a highprofile game? I can't say that I have... and am going to be pissed if I have to watch it in SD while the "news" is in HD.

Something good about moving from Richmond to Booneysville, NY.

Good coverage on both coasts should get him some love from voters if he goes off for another 200/200.
BTW, what's with the Arkansas game being shown in west Montana and Vegas?
October 6th, 2010 at 6:29 PM ^
not on my ABC. I have the dreaded "or" UNC/Clemson on espn. Hopefully it is on the direct tv espn overflow station if it is not on espn here.
October 6th, 2010 at 6:32 PM ^
Us in Vegas really got screwed on this one. How is Michigan v msu on all around us in HD, but we get stuck with Arky? Looks like I will just have to drive to California or something. I already had to watch last weeks game in SD, now this weeks game in SD too, anger.

Man and I thought living in Texas sucked before... now it really sucks.
October 6th, 2010 at 9:49 PM ^
Yeah we get to watch Jerrod Johnson throw 28 picks against Arkansas
Time to sign up for the New York area channels from DirecTV

Seriously... ESPN really missed the boat on this one... Anyway we can start a mass flood of emails to ESPN to petition and change their minds by Saturday? ha
October 6th, 2010 at 7:29 PM ^
That map *could* have been green and white, blue and green, or yellow and green. At least ESPN got something right.
October 6th, 2010 at 9:44 PM ^
You beat me to it.

for a second I thought this was going to be about our DBs, not ESPN shenanigans
