Most dissapointing transfer?

Submitted by mgoblueballer on

The recent posts on McGuffie and Fargas got me thinking about former transfers. What former Wolverine were you most dissapointed to see transfer? I based my opinion on performance as a Wolverine, overall potential, and success after transferring. Although I was just a young adolescent, I really liked Justin Fargas. I was at the game, I believe it was against Wisconsin, where he got injured and if I recall, never saw the field as a Wolverine again. He went on to be productive at USC and play in the NFL. I really think he could have been something special had he stayed.

I agree that he is not a Big Ten starter but I think he could be a big threat catching the ball out of the backfield this year assuming he's truly back to 100%

This is kind of 3rd down back Michigan has never had in the past.  These are the kind of backs I was excited for when we brought RR in.

I would be interested to see if Rodriguez would put him back there to return some punts....  I like Gallon more for that though.

I've said this before, but this is always what any analysis of Smith boils down to.  You're right, and yet when a running back's main strength is catching the ball, that's a good argument for him to sit on the bench until 3rd down or 2nd-and-long.

If people think he should be our starter, they're overrating him.

If people think he should play on obvious passing downs (presuming good health), they're rating him perfectly.

McGuffie was more durable (118 carries as a freshman, as opposed to 48 for Smith) and averaged .5 yards more per carry against FBS opponents (DSU doesn't count for Smith, and McGuffie didn't have an equally sorry opponent).

Okay.  Take them out, too.

He had 15 carries for 50 yards (3.33 yards per carry) against WMU, EMU, Iowa, Purdue, and Illinois.

The only way you can make him look like a good running back is by including DSU, and Kevin Grady averaged 10 yards a carry against DSU.  David Cone looked like a good QB.  You just can't judge by that.

McGuffie didn't put the ball on the turf (unless he was getting concussed).  Michigan had their defensive woes last season, but some of that can be contributed to a horrendoues turnover margin.  Therefore, I would dare to argue that he would have helped our defense by helping the offense keep possesion.

I was jacked up for this kid, probably because everyone was talking him up to be the next Jake Long. Plus I gotta rep West Michigan.

Glad he went to a no-threat school like WMU, as opposed to OSU...

6'2" 205lbs 4 star recruit from rivals? I know our WRs are one of our strengths but he could be a serious talent and deep threat, something we unfortunately seem to lack (c'mon Stonum, this is your year...). This is assuming he moves outside if he stays, leaving Roy Roundtree in the slot and alternating with Hemingway/Stonum.

Then again, I haven't heard about him doing a thing at Colorado, so maybe not.
