That orange and blue has got to be the ugliest uniform on ever, ever, in all of history ever

in 2004, were pretty good. Texas allowed around 3.18 y/c and only gave up 114 y/g passing and allowed 19.7 ppg. His resume' includes three Rose Bowls and 2 Super Bowls. How good were the Broncos after he left? How good were the Patriots after the whale left? GR meant more to Denver than tubby meant to NE.
Possibly a good hire. Better than JH from a media spin standpoint and middle-of-the-road enough to keep the political factions quiet.
Question is, does RR want to bank his HC future on the guy to bombed at Syracuse. Maybe GR is a much better DC than HC.

Was it GR leaving, or John Elway retiring and TD only playing like 7 games over the next three seasons before retiring that ended the Broncos run?
January 15th, 2009 at 8:44 AM ^
Good question. Obviously Griese > Elway so it was probably G-Rob leaving.

The Broncos' D only gave up two touchdowns in the '98 playoffs, one after a fumble on the 1 yd. line, and one in the fourth qtr. of the Super Bowl after the game was decided. So it might not have been all Elway. And we can discuss him now because Sam Webb from GoBlueWolverine put his name out on the airways of Ann Arbor this morning.

Why do I have the feeling that Tyrone Willingham will be the next DC? Is it his Michigan ties? NFL experience? Obvious relegation to a non-head coaching role?
January 15th, 2009 at 1:37 AM ^
So you guys are saying that Rex Ryan will not be the next DC at Uof M? That can't be true because Tim Tebow came to me last night in a dream and told me the great prophecy about the lion and the lamb laying down in the field was an allegory for RR and RR sharing the same sideline. So you guys are saying that that isn't true? Are you guys saying that Tebow is a liar?...
NO!
I won't believe it! You guys are the LIARS! ALL OF YOU!!
Brian, ban the bunch of them!
Ban them so we can bask in the glory of the knowledge of Tebow being right
.
yes
.
(laughs maniacally)

The new DC will be Tony Dungy. And he is bringing the Tampa two to the big house. Dare to dream.

buying a house in barton hills?

Can someone tell me who is GR?
Thanks

THANKS

He's a little young, but I think the forkball blitz will be effective. We might need to bring in another DC late in the game though if he gets tired.

The former Syracuse coach. I am not sure if he is the subject of the Scout article but Sam Webb was on WTKA this morning talking as if he was the guy.

On the one hand, he's been a part of a number of very good teams. I like that he was well-respected enough to get a head coaching job at a decent school, and that he was well-liked enough to keep that job for four years despite a dismal performance. He also has the kind of name recognition that gets people excited (I know my first instinct, without looking at any of his teams' stats, was "heh, cool.").
On the other hand, his team's defense over the last few years has been abysmal. If he was really such a defensive coordinator, I would have expected more. Even if he gave some control over to his own DC at 'Cuse, one would expect him to have stepped in when he saw that things weren't working. One possibility is that he wasn't able to recruit the kind of talent needed to hang in the Big East, but lack of recruiting ability is just another indictment.
If his 'Cuse team had been terrible, but had a great defense, I would probably be thrilled with the hire. Instead, I'm not really sure what to think.

Maybe the guy is Rod Marineliesque. Good at just being able to specialize in a certain thing but dysfunctional at the head spot.
January 15th, 2009 at 9:33 AM ^
That is all.

A guy at my office used to cover MSU and U-M sports for the Oakland Press and is usually a good source for letting me know WHEN something's going to happen (since they call his old comrades) but not WHAT.
He's a State fan (which is like a prerequisite for being a sportswriter around the tri-county area).
Anyway, he said he'd come by and let me know if gets wind of anything that would interest me. I would expect I'd hear from him if there was a presser being called to announce a DC.
