If you could change the result of one game

Which would it be and why?

Mine: we win The Game in 2006. Would be Big Ten Champions and at the very least the BCS title game runner-up if not win it.

Lloyd retires after the season as opposed to a year later.

honorable mention: 1996 OSU. The season was a failure being 8-4 anyways and we did sort of better the next year. I would trade this win if it meant OSU never fired John Cooper or at least didn't fire him after 2000.

Go for two

I felt sick for one month straight after this game. We played better and stopped them on fourth down. The 2006 Game we were out at halftime and made it close at the end. The 2015 MSU game left me with a similar feeling to the 16 Game.

2006 is obvious because of the stakes but for something more recent the 2015 game against MSU. The ending of that game was a kick in the nuts/shotgun to the face. If the game is won that season looks way better.

vs. Ohier State in 2016 -- Michigan won that game fair and square; fuck the police; i name a second game to change:

vs. Ohier State in 2009 -- the idea was there just didn't quite execute. Would have been a nice win over Terrelle and company. Certainly they would have bailed out of Clumbus faster.

2016 Ohio State game fir ibvious reasons, and I agree with those who said 2002 Ohio State game. we had that won except for some bad 1st half luck, and the tressel lore grew directly out of that game.

For this exercise to make sense, we have to assume that all games are silos, in that the outcome of one game does not change the outcome of other games.

Which means that the answer is App State. No other outcome has singulary done more harm to this program. And given that we have not played in any sort of championship games on a national level, there are no other outcomes, in isolation, that would have provided the same level of benefit.

Growing up it was the Pistons before everything else for me. That 2004 championship was a huge high. That loss still depresses ne to this day. A part of me felt and wishes with that win maybe Big Ben would have stayed after 2006. I really think they could have won one or two more with him. And didn't the Pistons almost get Robert Horry too? The trade didn't fall through?

...I would choose the 1972 Rose Bowl. If we win that game Bo has an undefeated season early on and the “Bo can’t win a bowl game” narrative never happens.

We wouldn’t have won the National Championship though because of Nebraska.

I pick 2009 MSU. RR went to overtime in EL with a freshman Tate Forcier. If we win that game we likely finish 6-6 or better, and get to a bowl in RR's second year. The extra practice maybe helps the 2010 defense, maybe more success helps Forcier not go wild in the off season, and I think the RR critics settle down. Also, then Dantonio is 1-2 vs Michigan with a program going sideways, maybe he doesn't get to where he is now. 2016 OSU is a better answer, but this MSU game has always fascinated me with the counterfactuals and what ifs.

First thing that came to mind was the horror, but we lost the next week too, so it really wouldn't have done much for the season. As a result, I am stuck with either the 2013 or 2018 basketball title games. Unpopular opinion, but I feel '06 vs Florida in the title game may not have gone well considering that OSU lost 41-14.
