Trey Burke "The Shot" vs Jordan Poole

Submitted by Bo4President on

Hello MGoBlue Family!

Like most of us today; I am riding the high after last nights shot by Jordan Poole.  Incredbile!  I couldn't help but think after last night about all my favorite moments with Michigan Basketball.  Many with the Fab Five of course.

But when it came down to the final seconds; my favorite has been Trey Burke vs Kansas.

Does this beat Trey's shot against Kansas?  Curious to get the boards thoughts on Jordan Poole's shot last night vs Trey's shot.

How does this rank and do you have a better moment that beats these two great shots in history.

It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine; GO BLUE!

Note: I tried linking (youtube)Trey's shot as a refersher from youtube but site wasn't allowing me for some reason.

Tough to say. I think it all depends on what happens from here. It is clear from looking in hindsight that Burke's shot propelled Michigan to the national title game. I think the shot would've lost a lot of its significance if Bukre and Co. went out and laid an egg against Florida in the Elite Eight. Burke's shot was also over a 1 seed in a game where Michigan was down virtually the whole game and was down by as much as 15 with under 5 to go. They had to fight tooth and nail for every point they got that night.

Not to discredit Poole at all. What he did last night was cold-blooded. But I've still got to go with Burke. The one thing I'll say that Poole has over Burke is that Burke was the Consensus National POTY. You expect a player like him to rise up and deliver in the big moments, and that the stage is never too big or too bright. But Poole is a freshman. And he saved Michigan's bacon last night. So I'd say that what Burke did should've been expected for a player of his caliber. You can't ever realistically expect a non-lottery pick freshman to deliver in that kind of moment.

Although Poole hit a walk off versus just sending it into OT, got to go with Burke's... deeper in the tourney against a perennial power.

because Kansas was suppose to win going in. They were a 1 seed. We were suppose to beat Houston. The play design was actually great on both plays, credit to JB.

That Kansas team was scary good. And we spent about 95% of the game down by 8-10 points. Throughout it all, it felt like one of those games where we were going to do just enough to barely lose and get a participation award. You have to give the nod to Burke. The main thing Poole has over Burke is that it was a buzzer beater. We didn't have to hold on for another 4 seconds and then play overtime.

trey is my all time favorite, even over jalen and cweb. I grew up as youngster watching the fab 5, but that 2013 team was so special. for trey, I was able to fully understand his impact at the time and know what he meant to the program. the fab 5 was cool to me at 11, but at 30, Burke was transcendent on the program. I'm biased towards Burke, so ill take his shot. either way, loved waking up the wife last night in joy. go blue.

Burke’s shot capped off one of the most unlikely comebacks in Michigan basketball history/tournament history. It propelled Michigan to the title game. It has to be Burke. Though I will say, both moments were ultra highs as a Michigan fan.

My hot take here is that Freshman Poole is actually better than Freshman Burke. The kid has been hitting big time shots all year.

Obviously as others said, it will depend on how the rest of this tournament goes. BUT, if we’re just gonna isolate on the two moments and compare them, I think Jordan Poole’s was WAY better. This was to win the game and more of a true buzzer beater, also the celebrations are even more perfect on all sides (Trey was pretty great, but every reaction was perfect last night). Also, more of a team play that made it more exciting.

Without question the best shot was Trey. That entire game was an epic battle and his shot was a fitting end to it. Yes, Jordan's shot was a game winner and came right at the buzzer but as excited as I was for the win it almost felt like we had stolen something.

Ten years from now if you had to make the choice of which one of those shots went in, it'd would be Trey's.

Burke's shot had more riding on it. That team had huge expectations, and a Sweet 16 loss would make the whole season a disappointment. Instead, it was the best of the Beilein era. Who knows if Beilein is able to keep things going if he doesn't have that run? This year is a "transition" year where the team is overachieving. We already have hardware. It's already successful. So this, for now, is an all-time moment punctuating a good year. But I reserve the right to change my opinion if the team wins a few more games.
