Fab Five butt wipe game on Youtube now

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Now it wasn't shown in this because it didn't happen when the cameras were rolling, but this was the game where the Fab Five played before a nasty crowd at MSU (shocking) and wiped their asses on the S at midcourt.

The game was broadcast on local Fox affiliates.  Some guy behind the scorer's table, where the TV announcers were sitting, could clearly be heard yelling "N*g***s!!" repeatedly.  My copy of Mitch Albom's book was lost a long time ago, but seems like he described this incident, as well.

...

I think you mean "wipe."  It was the 1993 game at Breslin.  I don't think it was caught on film (it was after the game ended).  They were out of line, obviously, but that was a nasty, nasty crowd they played before.  There were fans chanting racist things and holding up banners saying things like "JUWAN, I'M PREGNANT" and so forth.  It was just an ugly scene all around.

Accounts from the game from an old thread on it.

that this board wasn’t around then. The Fab Five were fun to watch, but they were a sloppy team. Lots of turnovers and poor shooting.
I can’t imagine the meltdown after the timeout vs UNC. MGoBlog would have been ruthless.

I was in the Detroit Country Day fieldhouse yesterday.  They have quite a trophy case which includes pictures of Webber and his multiple State Championships.

Heard a dad trying to explain the Fab 5 and Webber at Country Day to his kid.  The kid who must have been 14 or 15 said something like ... yeah but that was division 3 ....  The dad got serious and tried to explain that how good Weber was (#1 overall draft pick, two finals etc).  I had to step in because he was not getting half of it right.

I'm not sure that fans or even Michigan fans blinded by the Ed Martin "scandal" realize how good Webber was. He was the best and the most exciting player to ever don a Michigan Jersey and that includes Cazzie, Rice, Trey Burke etc. and it's not even close.   Best hands on a big man I've ever seen, incredible shooter within 10 feet  and his dunks were monstrous and epic and pulled the hearts out of th chests of opposing teams and fans.

Of course, in today's game that would be wasted on 6'1" guys jacking up threes all day but it was pure glory to watch that team play. Everyone of them could finish.   Shame what happened and of course it was the families and adminstrations fault but today you have teams like Duke, Louisville, NC, Kentucky where many of  the players are being paid in one form or another or MSU which is a haven for rape and violence and nothing too serous really ever happens to those programs.  Such a shame.

Three years in a row - Webber's Soph, Junior and Senior at Country Day - CD traveled up to TC and played the largest HS in the state of Michigan (at the time) and won handily every game.  Some loser Dad wrote a letter to the editor at the TC Record-Eagle and bitched about the crowd/students going crazy after Webber's many jaw dropping dunks and deep 3-pointers.  His kid was the classic jock who'd never play beyond HS and he couldn't understand why the greatest talent to every grace the court in TC since the days of Thunder Dan Majerle got that response ...we students knew what we were watching.

Luckily I got to see a lot more in Ann Arbor the next few years.  More important to that Dad's story would have been mentioning that Webber could have played at SW with Jalen and Voshon Leonard ...imagine that!

Ah yes, the fab five did so much for us. I can't wait to have another bankrolled team that sets our program back 20 years.
