Detroit Pistons down Boston Celtics

Submitted by Michigan4Life on

The Pistons came to the Garden and beat the best team in the Eastern Conference 118-108. They were the better team of the two today and Andre Drummond has been a beast. The Celtics had no answer for Dre.

Stats that stood out to me are:

Tobias Harris: 31 pts, 11/16 FG with 5/6 FG

Andre Drummond: 26 pts, 22 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals, 6/8 FT

Reggie Jackson: 20 pts, 7/10 FG and 7 assists

They harassed Kyrie Irving all game long and he wasn't his best self.

The Pistons is now a legit top 3 team in the Eastern Conference. They already beat OKC, Boston, GSW and other quality teams. The question is can they make it to the Eastern Conference Finals?

win.  Particularly when you consider Marcus Smart was shooting like Steph Curry all night.

The way Dre has totally tranformed his game is incredible.  He is a legit franchise player right now.  The most amazing thing to me is the assist totals.  He is functioning as a high post facilitator on a lot of sets.  That would have been unheard of last year.  I wonder how much of it has to do with increased confidence related to his FT shooting.  He just looked mentally drained last season, now he looks like he WANTS to be on the line.

Just an impressive performance all around.  Boston isn't nearly as good as that win streak made them out to be, but they're still a really solid team and were playing at home.  But with Drummond able to stay on the court and guys like Harris and Bradley providing some balanced scoring, they've been a revelation.

"The Pistons came to the Garden and beat the best team in the Eastern Conference Boston118-108."

The "best team in the east" just won their 8th game in a row crushing the Sixers by 25 in Philly.  You guys might remember them....if memory serves they edged out a narrow 28 point victory over the mighty Pistons two weeks ago tonight.

lost to the Nets and the Hawks (two of the worst team in the league) this season so they're not the best based on their play this season. Boston is still the best team in the East and they had a long winning streak.  They're winning without Gordon Hayward.

Also, the Cavs caught the Pistons at a good time. The Pistons played their 3rd game in 4 nights so they were tired. I want to see both teams when both are well rested.

and Boston had won 16 in a row but that doesn't matter. Also see above for their respective schedules during that time. I'll give Cleveland the edge against Detroit this year but I'm really interested to see what their next few matchups look like when they are both rested.

Well as luck would have it we've already had one look at it.  Cavs won on opening night.

FYI - IT is about to come back (expecting him sometime in the next 10 days) and we're already rolling.  The key to our resurgance is the bench play led by D. Wade & Korver.  Look at the +/- tonight and you'll see the Cavs starters played the Sixers about even but the second team SMOKED Philly.  Lue has gone small-ball with the back-ups: Wade, Korver, Frye, Green and one starter.  I'll bet with Tristin Thompson & Shumpert come back next week their minutes will be cut way back.

They have definitely gotten their shit together.  Playing very, very well right now and about to get a a whole lot better with a true PG on the floor.

Remember I grew up in Pontiac and was a huge Pistons fan growing up.  Have the Freep & News "day after" sports pages framed and in my office from 89, 90 and 04.  Went to two NBA finals games in 87 against the Lakers.

I tease here a bit on the subject but candidly I'm very happy the Pistons are doing well this year.  I dont think they're getting past the Cavs this year (or any year if LBJ stays in CLE) but I'd like to see them do well.

I think its safe to say Cavs at the top in the East or close to it.

They play till June most years so a slow start or paced start makes sense.

Let's enjoy this energetic Pistons and see if they can keep it going to a top five seed before we worry about the finals. I heard that Bradley is 3-0 in his last three trips to Golden State. That guy is just a hard working winner who gets the most out of his talent and his teammates.

Man its great to see the Pistons winning again.  We kind of know what to expect out of Dre,  Harris,  Bradley and jackson most nights.  But if Johnson and Kennard can keep developing and become more consistent while also getting good production from Ish,  Tolliver and Leur then we may see this team go deep in the playoffs this year.

Huge win tonight.  Keep up the momentum boys its a long season.

Avery Bradley is Kyrie’s kryptonite! He just doesn’t play well against him. I know it is early, but if the pistons contend in the East, Drummond has to get some MVP consideration. His FT improvement is nothing short of miraculous. This game would’ve been an even bigger blowout if not for an out of body shooting night for Marcus Smart.

I fully admit to being a bandwagon fan when it comes to the Pistons.  I was a little kid during the Bad Boy era and they were the first team I ever loved.  I was still somewhat interested during the Grant Hill / teal jersey days but didn't really get back into them until the early 2000s.  Ever since they hired SVG I've had some hope, and now I'm back on the bandwagon!

We were in a pretty solid spot IMO, two years ago when we got swept by Cleveland in the first round. Sounds silly, but that was one of the most competitive sweeps I've seen as a sports fan. Pistons gave them a game almost every single time on the floor. Cavs just had superstar talent. Then last year was a disaster. Felt like a perfect storm to me with the injuries and players playing below potential. I didn't expect them to win 50 last year, but they should have been a playoff team. Everyone was talking about what a disaster we were, how bad Reggie's contract was, Dre was a bust etc etc. Lowered expectations for this team, which I think was good. Detroit always plays better with a chip on our shoulder.

I don't expect us to sustain a .684 clip this season (or even .600), but it is a team that can win 45-50 games if we stay healthy and focused. Could get home court in round 1.

bad matchup for Boston. Horford cannot guard Drummond and Avery is the best PG defender in the league. I would still take Boston in 7 because there is no way Harris plays like that over 7 games.
