Michigan suspended Nate Johnson over the weekend. This is why:

ANN ARBOR -- Michigan football player Nate Johnson was arrested over the weekend by campus police following an alleged assault.

Diane Brown, spokesperson for the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security, told MLive on Monday that Johnson, 19, was arrested on campus in the early morning hours of Saturday for an attack on a female student.

Details of the incident were not immediately clear, but the alleged victim was located at a dorm room on campus, Brown said.

Unless Harbaugh alters his previous approach in these situations, Johnson won't play until the court case is resolved and there's a high probability this is the end of his career in Ann Arbor.

I trust the courts to figure this out. And not the court of public opinion.

According to what I read, "If a person pulls their fist back as if to punch someone, and the other person believes that they will be punched, it might be considered assault."

Battery seems more cut and dried. Assault? I'd like to know more. Were there witnesses? In a dorm often means there must have been witnesses.

Cut off from all football activities at this time is appropriate. Being cut from the team depends on a lot more. (Found guilty? Inconclusive? Innocent? Nature of the Assault?)

I have no dog in this hunt, but it seems Harbaugh has done exactly the right thing.

Only one other comment . . . the glass houses thing. While every situation is different, this reminds me of why I tend to be cautious in saying how horrible MSU and OSU are. The reality is that a lot of people make bad decisions.

"A little after 2 a.m. (on Sept. 30) one of our housing security officers found a female student outside South Quad residence hall and she reported she had been assaulted," Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security spokesperson Diane Brown said Monday. "We located the male nearby and placed him under arrest for domestic violence and took him to jail."

Johnson is being charged with one count of domestic violence and is scheduled to appear in front of Judge Elizabeth Pollard Hines on Oct. 11 in Ann Arbor. Johnson was released from jail on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond, which means he was released without bail under the condition that he'll appear in court.

regardless. I'm not saying that's what happened but it's a reasonable possibility that things go out of hand and Nate just defended himself or pushed her off him. If he did assault her he should be booted.  But i'm going to wait to pass judgement.

Could be really bad shit like he went nuts and punched her and knocked her out ala Ray Rice and is a nut job.

Or maybe they had a heated argument and he did some stupid shit like throw her computer against the wall and scared the bejesus out of her and others in the dorm.

Both are shitty and wrong, but it's not binary, there's a spectrum to behavior here and we should wait to see what exactly happened.

We all lose our temper and do stupid shit sometimes...the question is how bad the action was and if the girl was physically assaulted.  If so...sorry bud, gotta go.  If more innocuous, maybe he gets a lucky second chance and learns to control his emotions.
