This argument and our ability to do it is not what makes this country great. Athletes being able to use their celebrity platform to make a stand against a huge social issue makes this country great. People having the freedom to reject the validity of their protest does not make this country great. They are on the wrong side of history and it is just an unfortunate side effect of humanity that you can't silence some unhelpful speech without creating a slippery slope. But the unhelpful speech does not make this country great in any way.

I dislike patriotism in general because more often than not it morphs into this weird, conceited attitude about this country.  People in general don't seem to understand that confidence isn't thinking that you're better than everyone else, true confidence lies in not needing to compare.  Without getting too political, too many people in this country love to walk around beating their chests talking about how great they are without any humility or civility.  Being an asshole for the sake of "not being PC" or "speaking my mind" should not be a desirable trait.

on your "PC" thought. Disagree a little on your patriotism thought.  I consider myself a patriot and I'm proud of my country.  Perhaps I'm most proud that we actually study and are ashamed of our historical faults (as opposed to many countries that sent or make excuses for them).  I think "nationalism" is where I draw a line and become uncomfortable.  Cheers and go blue!

I'm not criticizing him for protesting the protestors. I'm just confused why he thinks kneeling during the anthem has anything to do with the military. The flag represents America, not the military. Those players are Americans -- just as American as veterans who served, died serving, or are currently serving. There aren't different levels of being American. If you feel like you or other Americans are being treated differently than other Americans, you can (and should) protest. That is what they are doing. It has absolutely nothing to do with the military or veterans.

Let me state that I'm all for the protests.  I'm also taking your question at face value.

There are some understandable reasons why kneeling during the anthem is associatated with the military.

1.   The flag is raised at the same time, which many people particularly associate with military service and the ultimate sacrifice.  Coffins of service men are often draped in the flag and veterans are often buried with a flag.  Veterans slaute the flag.  They fought for the flag, etc etc.

2.  Specifically, ROTC and other military people often present and raise the flag at football games.

3.  The national anthem is about Francis Scot Key watching the flag still flying while the British were bombarding a fort.

It is another, very important quesiton, about why kneeling during the anthem is being seen as disrespectful to the military rather than a peaceful protest consistent with American values.  A second quesiton is whether a politician who avoided military service every way he could is using this protest to divide rather than unify for his own personal ego and political gain.   I'm sure you know where I come out an these questions by my first sentence

Still waiting for a reasonable answer as to why you hate people kneeling against racism and minority treatment in the country...

Doubt I'll get one tho.

First, it was disrespectful to the troops (it's not)

Second, it was just an act, they don't mean it (raised milions)

What's the third excuse going to be champ?

Because it makes people talk about it. I think this is silly an my cubicle-neighbor talks about it all the time. I applaud Kap, respect their right to take a stand, and hope something good comes out of it. But I hate hearing about it, so I don't like that it happened. Yes this is petty; that doesn't make me evil or stupid or racist (right???)

This x 1000000000.  I have literally never seen a protest met with anything other than hate and vitriol, regardless of how peaceful it may be.  I can guarantee these assholes would have spoken out against the Boston Tea Party because they were "damaging property" or some shit like that

Lewis has looked good. I think 3 nice tackles, including a TFL. Palmer doesn't seem to be looking his way much, so I haven't noticed any opportunities for a play in coverage. Charlton has been a non-entity. Hasn't played many snaps and hasn't really done anything in the time he's been in, though I noticed him get double-teamed on at least one play. But in a game where Dallas's d-line is starting to take over, he's been noticeably absent from any of that.
