Brady Quinn/Fox announcing was...not great Bob
I was pretty unimpressed with the announcing team, and Brady Quinn in particular.
This isn't the standard "He went to Notre Dame, he flamed out in the NFL, he sucks" type of critique. But it seemed like he did no research ahead of this game, and just generally is not very observant. The short version is:
Not doing his research, and not picking up on little details throughout the game, you can see indications of why he was not a successful NFL QB. He's still new at this, so maybe he'll improve but I thought this was pretty poor for what I assume is one of their top announcing teams. Other folks' thoughts?
A few examples that stuck out:
-Amid the wondering why Ty Isaac wasn't getting more carries, they don't mention that he was injured last week until like the fifth time they drone on about his limited attempts.
-On the Speight injury, it takes like four replays for Brady to suggest that MAYBE it was the second hit that caused the injury, which I'm guessing basically everyone saw live or at worst on the first replay.
-Confusing Robbins for Nordin for two quarters. Ok, they have the same number. Still, Hart has struggled, Robbins is the clear backup....again, a tiny bit of study of the teams you're covering would put you on notice for this change.
-On the ineligible man downfield, they correctly identified that it would have been bogus on Hill, but then just moved on, then later on show no replay when they finally suggest it was on someone else. Compare that to the diligence that happened on the garbage ineligible receiver call in the Florida game.

Brady Quinn sucks at TV more than he did playing QB. Borderline cheering for Purdue. Not surprising considering.

Just a reminder that it was an away game at Purdue just a few short years ago when many of us saw the all time best announced game, in which a single guy in Europe who was not connected in any way to the broadcast team, the production crew, etc. did his darnedest to capture what was going on: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/george-walden-eurosport-announcer-extraordi….

Announcing was the least of my worries during this game.

I also don't remember them trying to provide an injury update after Speight went out. Maybe that's because they knew they wouldn't get one out of Harbaugh and Co.

They mentioned that Speight had been carted to a building outside of the arena for an x-ray. That's all the update that was available to them.

Find Something else to complain about.

Why were they making excuses for an obvious targeting penalty which was upheld by the review?

Still mad at the Browns for drafting Brady Quinn. As a Browns fan, I just don't enjoy anything Brady Quinn-related. Below-average QB and meh announcer.

Give me ESPN's announcers and Fox's camera angles and we're good to go.

Maybe you are just looking for negative post.
I say the problem is with you.

All the other guys that Michigan has had in the past.
The pairings on BTN, ESPN2, etc...
I thought Quinn and the other dude did a good job.

I thought they were fine. In fact, I went into watching the game with a pretty sizeable bias against Quinn. I came out of it appreciating the guy.
There are so many other things in the world to care about. This should not rise to the level of distracting you from things that really matter.

I think part of it was Quinn's inexperience, but the Fox broadcast was pretty underwhelming, even irritating to me at times. I wasn't a huge fan of the camera work either - I don't mind seeing all 22 players on each snap, but why does it feel like that camera is practically on the Moon in Purdue as well as other stadiums? That bugged me too.

How about the distance between their light towers and the last row of seats?

I remember Desmond Howard was pretty bad on College Game day when he first started. He's improved tremendously. Give Quinn a break.

The dude (Quinn) is a flat out idiot.
He does not need a break; he needs a job.

Has anyone had the chance to listen to an NFL game with Tony Romo as the color guy?
HOLY TRAINWRECK.
Not sure what they were thinking making him their #1 guy.

Mutated into silence. Networks could save money if they went with one guy in the booth.
