OT: Death, Taxes, and K-Rod

Submitted by MgoDavidson on

The depressing nature of all 3 of these things remains constant.

The Tigers rally twice, but even when he isn't the closer, K-Rod manages to lose Detroit the game. How many more appearances will he have in a Tigers uniform?

Something about acquiring Francisco Rodriguez never sat well with me, and now I am witnessing why it never sat well with me. There were some real concerns about his status as a "once was" when it came to being a relief pitcher, and sadly we get to watch it almost every night as Tigers fans.

I am tired of every other game causing little more than groans from the 6th inning onwards.

Of course it was.  Seems to me he's been given his run, and he is finished.  With even average closers, this  team is in first in the division by several games.  Which is not to say they do not have other shortcomings.  Hard to see how any random guy thrown out there to close could be worse than K-Rod right now.

Kicked the can down the road over, and over, and over again. And it's finally going to catch up with them. Bloated contracts, aging veterans, a general refusal to get younger.

Like the Red Wings and Pistons, the whole thing really needs to be blown up and returned to square one.

Last night's loss becomes a win if Justin Upton doesn't strike out on a curve ball that bounced up to the plate with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the 11th, and if Blaine Hardy doesn't give up 3 runs in the 12th.

With Joe Jiminez on the DL, here's who's available:

Perennial prospects Buck Farmer, Drew VerHagen, Kyle Ryan, and Warwick Saupold

Perpetual MLB Journeymen Logan Kensing, Edward Mujica, and Mike Zagurski

Bruce Rondon.  0.90 ERA but 7 walks in 10 innings

Victor Alcantara.  Just recalled from Erie.  Prospect who was acquired from Anaheim for Cameron Maybin

None are likely to strike fear into opposing lineups!  At least Chad Bell looked promising last night....maybe he'll take over Hardy's LOOGY role

Worries me more than anything. Hitters finally healthy and will score runs. Blame the pitching last nite but I blame the defense. In the Os big inning Castellanos and mahtook each missed plays that good defenders make. That led to the crooked number. Then romine boots an easy play that blows up into 3 runs. I am ok with thus bullpen going forward. Krod and Sanchez will not see meaningful innings.

To be completely fair, Wilson blew the save in the 9th.  But the KRod implosion was still laughable and predictable.   His fastball-change up differential is like 3 mph nowadays.
