OT: Lollapalooza lineup announced

Submitted by Z on
The lineup for Lollapalooza was announced today, and my initial reaction is that it is more "meh" than past years. Some of the best headliners I saw the past couple years were RHCP, Rage Against the Machine, and Muse. This year's headliners (Soundgarden, Greenday, and Lady Gaga) don't get me that excited. The only band I'm actually very pumped to see is Wolfmother, and if MGMT is playing the same day I'll check them out again. The nice thing about Lollapalooza, though, is that there are a ton of bands I've never heard of and are pleasantly surprised when I enjoy their show (actually, Wolfmother is one of those bands which was part of the 2006 lineup; they've since broken up and gotten back together). Are there any other bands in the lineup that any of you think are a "can't miss" show? See the link below. http://2010.lollapalooza.com/?utm_campaign=2010_lineup&utm_content=2010…

is great. One of my favorites. Phoenix is awesome live. I really enjoy the Strokes and heard they put on a great show. MGMT's new album is supposed to be different but good. Arcade Fire is excellent. Spoon has some great stuff as well. Go see Blues Traveler just to see the sweatiest man alive. He really pours as he wails on his harmonicas

The Strokes do put on a great show. I saw them once right after This Is It came out (I had a teenage crush on Julian Casablancas the way girls now have one on Justin Bieber) and they were fantastic. They only played for about 1/2 hour because frankly they didn't have much more material than that, but it was still a helluva show. I'd love to see them play some of my newer favorites like Heart In a Cage and Under Control. 3

I'd definitely want to check out Wavves and HEALTH. I have no idea how good either show would be (I've heard Wavves shows can be spotty, and HEALTH might turn into a bunch of guys fiddling with knobs and sound boards, which can be boring), but both are awesome on their records.

Minus the Bear and MuteMath both play great entertaining live sets. Plus with Minus the Bear's new album coming out around the same time, they should play a great show, highly recommed going to see both.

I'm really excited for Lollapalooza. I've gone every year it's been in Chicago and have never been disappointed. It's a pretty unique festival since it's in the center of a big city. Being surrounded by the Chicago skyline with Lake Michigan off to one side and a ton of awesome bands playing in the middle of the summer is hard to beat...

Once again, this thread confirms that MGoBlog has some of the coolest readers of any sports blog out there. This discussion would be at home on Stereogum or something. +1 to all of you.
