The Harrison Roadhouse. It is standard fare, but it tends to be a place to hang out before MSU games. It is at the corner of Michigan and Harrison, which is not far from all of the athletic facilities.

so I'm out there a lot :( East Lansing is pretty lacking for good restaurants. There are chain places like Noodles & Company, Buffalo Wild Wings, Mongolian BBQ, etc. There's also the Ann Arbor transplants like Pizza House and Bell's. One bar that I've been to with decent, cheap bar food is Peanut Barrel, but it's always packed.

I lived in East Lansing for two years and although I think it's a great town (but not even close to Ann Arbor), their eatery selection is weak.
Not a great restaurant town, to say the least.
They do have some pretty decent Pizza joints though.

There are few things more delicious than Pokey sticks at 3 AM.

Menna's Joint. They serve "dubs", basically burritos but not filled with typical burrito filling. The ultimate drunk food, and still taste pretty good sober. Not the classiest place to go though.

They tried to put a Menna's in Ann Arbor (I know one of the principals), but couldn't find a favorable location because the rental rates were too high and the numbers didn't pencil out.
I agree - Menna's is great, the ultimate drunk food.

Interesting to hear. I've always thought it'd do well in Ann Arbor. It would add some variety to our drunk food options. While on this topic, they really need to bring back Taco Bell (and not a half-assed Taco Bell express in the League).

Try Crunchys. Great beer selection, good burgers and pizza; very cheap. Good Atmosphere. Should be open for seating with students on break.

...Crunchys is far and away the best place to go if you are interested in getting a couple of good beers and cheap bar food.

Crunchy's on Grand River NW of the campus is a dive sports bar with GREAT bar food. Best burgers in town, and beer quite literally by the bucket. El Azteco, at Ann and MAC, has really good, cheap Mexican food and beer (and good margheritas, I hear, if you like that sort of thing.) It's also more in the middle of the E.L. bar scene.
(If I need resume cred to post in this thread, I tortured myself by working for State for 4 years - told people it was part of my role as a Michigan alumnus to help the less fortunate....)

I grew up in East Lansing -- you need to go there tonight. Have a Topopo salad and a pitcher of marg's.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Crunchy's and Menna's both look good.

Anything will taste better then crow. Kick Spartys ASS!

Los Tres Amigos on Grand River is actually a really good place for Mexican food and they have a nice drink selection

I second this.
A cold 32 oz mug of Dos Equis amber and some good mexican food is a great combo!

If you feel like Chinese food there is a cool little place called Gourmet Village off of Hagadorn and just across the street from Campus. I used to live in Hubbard, a dorm in that area when I did my undergrad at MSU. Anyway, it's not much to look at but serves the best Chinese food around; it's also pretty affordable.
The best Chinese place in EL is Asian House on Grand River just before the intersection with Bogue. Cheap as hell and delicious. The guy who runs the place will sit and either watch old DVDs or play PS2 on a tiny TV in the corner of the place.
Chinese Gourmet is great, Asian House is better, imhe.
But where I would go is Peanut Barrel. Get the olive burger and two long islands. You are only allowed to have two.

Best sushi place I've ever been. That is, its a REAL sushi place, not just some Asian buffet that serves cheap crap.
Trust me, you'll like it. I can eat rolls that are half filled with things I can't stand normally and still like it. If the rawness gets you, you can get a deep-fried roll, too (Which I can vouch for, as my two favorites are both of this variety).
Its a bit on the pricy, but well worth the money. Its located on Grand River on the north border of campus, close to where their Steve and Barry's once was.
I just have a real hard time believing that you can get good sushi in East Lansing. Perhaps you should go to Chicago sometime and see if it compares.
or LA
Japan.

If it were me I would target something Chi-Omega.

All my family who went to MSU worked there and the food really is top notch. Deli style grilled sandwiches that are large and in charge.. good fries, and the greek salad is tasty.

Best food near Munn - one of best in area - is affordable Middle Eastern place called Woody's Oasis in Trowbridge Center at the opposite end of the ShopRite. Very good, cheap and easy.
Is right across the street from Vladimir's Burrito Heaven.
There is one on Grand River right across from campus that has their liquor license.
The hummus there is top notch
Lived in EL for a year (shudder). There are very few places that are any good. It depends on what you're looking for - it sounds like you are going to the game, and not interested in watching it at a place, so I would recommend Menna's. It's okay. Also, there's a Lou and Harry's where Saginaw, Coolidge, and Grand River intersect that's not usually too busy and has good food (Gyros, burgers, etc.)
Harper's is a very good place. The beer is good and their prices are (or at least were) unbeatable. They used to have really good specials (like everything on the menu half-off after 4pm or something) but I'm not sure if it's like that any more. They are a couple doors down from the Marriot in downtown East Lansing.
I think it is half off on Wednesdays, unless they changed it in the 6 months since I've been gone. Harper's really went down hill over the last few years. My ex had her graduation party there and they either burnt or didn't cook all of our food and our service was terrible. Their beer is pretty good though.
They have great soup, and if you're looking for a *meal*, you'll be happy too. Hard to pass up the soup, tho.
Soup is not a meal.
anything wearing green with a pulse!
