Was our defense even really that good?

We could halfway decently stop the run, but we had zero pass rush from the time Brandon Graham left until essentially last year. Maybe sprinkle in a little action from Mike Martin and RVB in 2011, but otherwise, our defenses were very, very average and unspectacular under Hoke.

S&P+ rankings were 12, 22, 27, and 18. So those were good, above average differences. You mention pass rush, and have a point. But he got great pass rush in 2011, with upperclassmen, and not surprisingly got worse when he had to ask underclassmen to do it. Defense was good. Offense was absolute trash, and the fact that the defenses were out there so long probably colors your view.

I'm saying nothing that hasn't been said before, but I'm saying it anyway:

I really liked Hoke as a guy. He seems like he'd be an awesome guy to sit down with, have a few beers with, and swap some stories. Probably why he was such a great recruiter. But unless he's a DL coach, I think he's proven that he is in way over his head at the P5 level. Or at least at a program that matters.

You hired a guy that, to my estimation, never called any plays a day in his life. You hired a guy that doesn't even wear a headset. What the hell did you expect was going to happen?

Why does everyone say Hoke was such a great recruiter? That was only true here and AFTER the entire M football community rallied behind Hoke post RR. He didn't light it up anywhere else and was a .500 level HC.

He should never have been given the job in the first place!!

Hoke is/was a joke. He's dumb, can't pick coordinators, and shouldnt be a head coach or coordinator at any decent program.

Mary Sue, Bill Martin, Lloyd Carr and Dave Brandon cost us a decade...
