Recruiting mailbag questions for Monday

Submitted by Steve Lorenz on

Hey guys,

Hit me up with your questions for next Monday's mailbag.

There were some good questions remaining in last week's, so I may answer a couple of those still. I am keeping track of all questions asked in each of these so I'll keep picking out the best ones, even if they're from past board posts.

Steve, on these recruiting trips we often hear about parents coming along. We also hear about the scandals at Miami and Louisville involving all kinds of impermissible benefits. When on the recruiting trips, where are the parents housed relative to the recruits and what do the schools do to keep parents and recruits busy into the evenings?

JaVonte Richardson ATH is a Kentucky commit from Ohio.  Very versatile player who can play WR or S.  UK looking awful and likelihood Stoops lasts beyond 2017 is becoming less likely by the day (big buyout this year).  Michigan was interested and offered Richardson prior to committing and could really use him at S.  Any chance Richardson and UM rekindle their relationship?

2 Questions regarding recruits we seem to have a good shot with:

1) How realistic is it to think we'll see all of DPJ, Collins, Black, and Martin?

2) How does the recent ACL tear on Drew Singleton impact his recruitment in your estimation?  We'll still go hard after him, correct?

Thanks for the weekly recruiting updates!

Can you walk us through what an official visit to Michigan is like for a 5 star recruit?  What's the agenda?  What are the cool things UM does that are unique compared to other schools?

Why is UCLA such a common (and frustratingly successful) competitor for Michigan's targets these days? Does the NCAA's Tresseling of their OL coach move the needle with any prospects?

Hello from Colorado.  With nonconference games with Utah and now Colorado, I am curious how much of a recruiting priority is the Intermountain West for Michigan. There aren't many high caliber programs out here until you get to the West Coast.

Steve- Do you think Harbaugh is burning redshirts with any thought to the fact that guys further down the depth chart as upperclassmen can then transfer without losing a year of eligibility?

I appreciate the implication that perhaps he was too small for Harbs liking (if that's really the case), but you can't ignore the fact that he was the 2nd fastest guy at the opening (which is by the way an elite offer only camp and from what I read he was robbed of #1) Also, he plays with two of our most highly sought after recruits. It's not just me but his talent is being recognized by everyone in the country as I just saw he was invited to play in the Army All American game. If you can offer the other guys, this guy has to be worth a second look.
