Anyone have advice on where to stay in Iowa City and when to book?  I checked airbnb just now because I figured a lot of people might put stuff up since the football schedule is made known so far in advance but there wasn't really that much on there.

So for $11,000 plus 40 points for my wife and my alumni memberships, I can get the opportunity to buy tickets.    I do o.k. but that seems pretty steep.  I'm glad Michigan has enough super successful alumni to donate tons of cash.

Ranking Priority Points*
Top 100 6,023.47
Top 500 1661.7
Top 1,000 824.74
Top 2,500 386
Top 5,000 210
Top 10,000 110.64
Top 20,000 64.75

Each point is $100, so I'm assuming the top 100 donors average $602,347 each while the top 20,000 (including the top 10,000?) average $6,475.

Do priority points stay in the family? Seems like the only way to get tickets is if your family has had them for decades. Maybe you should be deducted points for selling your tickets to the Game (ugh). As it stands, the games are populated mostly by students and older alumni and we all know the issues that occur (down in front and off my lawn and don't yell so loud right in my ear!)

I mean it's not a huge issue (you can still get tickets, it's just tougher I guess), but I think it's a problem when recent graduates can't get tickets because they don't have enough money to donate yet and haven't had time to build up points. If I lived in MI (I don't) I would want to get season tickets but the costs of "showing my loyalty" would be prohibitive. If I came from money or were older, though...

Maybe the amount of points needed should be a sliding scale for the first 10 or so years after graduation.

honestly, I don't know how else they can do it; we are only alloted so many away game tickets.

You definitely want to give the students first crack (I went to away games every year after my freshmen year) and then you only have so many left.  I think you should reward those who are rewarding you first but it would be nice to see some sort of raffle for season ticket holders, even if it is only like 50 pairs of tickets.

Would that work for you?

Yeah definitely. I'd be okay with that. Just something to address it. With student loan debt being what it is, recent grads can't afford tickets under the current system, and probably can't for at least a decade.

I emailed and got a response: We do offer season tickets at a discounted rate to recent graduates so they are able to purchase tickets immediately after they graduate and become a part of the process moving forward. For this upcoming season recent graduates had the opportunity to purchase season tickets for a $75 donation which is significantly discounted from the normal rate. We greatly appreciate your feedback and I will pass along your suggestion to my team.

I kinda got owned. Oops.

Meh not really. That's an offer to 2016 grads who got to games before kickoff to be put on the "interest list", probably based on the low demand due to lousy home schedule this year. The "interest list" will get them tickets this year, but i would bet anything it won't in 2017 with osu/msu on the schedule, or the years with oklahoma/texas, or any season after a breakout year

Granted, high demand for tickets is a good thing. We want the stadium full. But i share your sentiment that it shouldn't only be old farts with deep pockets who somehow manage to become poor and sell their tix to ohio fans once UM has a single loss, all the while crying about students who are stuck in the corner endzone showing up late

I miss the days when it wasn't a bidder's war and the official line towards scalping tickets was "you will be banned if caught"

Sometimes, there are offers of bonus points if you renew season tickets online. Plus you get yearly points for your PSD. If you upgrade your tickets over time (which I just did last season), you can rack up points pretty quickly with PSD "donations":

Donor Priority Points

Category Points
Athletic Donations 7.75
University Donations 0.00
Season Ticket Consecutive Years of Purchase 19.00
Michigan Alumni 40.00
Letterwinner 40.00
Charter Victors Club Bonus 0.00
Miscellaneous 0.00
Michigan Marching Band 0.00
Bonus Points 7.00
Hail Program 0.00
My Priority Point Total 113.75

As far as points transferring, that's a really good question. I'd sure like to know.
