#1 W Gym beats OSU for the 47th time in last 48 meetings
After a hot 3-0 start that included wins over two top-15 ranked SEC teams, Michigan claimed the #1 spot in the GymInfo rankings this week.
Those are calculated by the average scores teams post. Michigan is actually a co-#1 with LSU, but Michigan has a better claim to it as LSU had only competed once coming into this week.
The Wolverines took on Ohio State in their B1G Conference opener today at Crisler Center in the annual Autisum Awareness meet.
Michigan dominated from start to finish. The Blue took never trailed once all day, topped OSU in every single event and once again posted a score North of 196.025, which is what Michigan has done in every meet so far in this early season.
The Wolverines topped the Buckeyes, 196.950 to 195.275.
Freshman Olivia Karas won the all-around title, which is certainly an encouraging sign so early on for a freshman on a team that is loaded.
Michigan has now beaten OSU 47 times in the last 48 meetings, boosting Michigan's lead in the all-time series to 48-22.
LSU posted a lower score earlier this week, so Michigan will likely become the undisputed #1 team in the nation on Monday.

Ouch.

1-21, actually.
Bev Plocki took over in 1990. Lost to them twice in 1990 and has only lost to them once since then. 46-3 record against OSU.

I was too slow in typing my response. Now I am reading this and I am just more confused. After a long Saturday and a couple of beers I'm not going to try to untangle everything. In any event, good win!

Wait, am I understanding the history of this matchup correctly? OSU led the series 21-0, and then we won 47 of 48 to take a 47-22 lead? Wow, that is one period of domination replaced by another, even MORE impressive period of domination.

Michigan had one win that I forgot to include in the record. I fixed it. Started off 1-21.

Okay, think I got it. Time for me to keep drinking and then go to bed.

But look at this post! OSU already won before the meet started!

Michigan, MSU and OSU: what do they all have in common?
They're all obsessed with Michigan.

Not meant to be snarky... I'm just not familiar with gymnastics, but does winning 196.950 to 195.275 really constitute a "Dominating" performance?

Yes. Michigan never trailed and won everything.
Michigan won every event and a Wolverine won each individual title.
There's obviously no way to play defense and stop a team from scoring points in a performance sport like this, so all you can do is focus on yourself and try to hit everything. And Michigan did.
Anything in the 192s or below as a team is more often than not an utter disaster.

Michigan swept the event titles, came in 1st & 2nd in the all-around, as well as scoring higher as a group in each of the four events.
On this level, most scores are over 9 points, so the differences are in the 1/10ths & 1/100ths. A fall usually means almost a full point off, which is huge, but women are allowed to use only 5 of 6 scores, so a single fall won't destroy you. But steps and wobbles and assorted imperfections add up with little deductions, and the more difficult the routine the higher starting value.

Luv it! Women's softball is still my fav, but great win for the gymnastics team.
