Annual "WAAAY Too Early" Depth Chart ('16-'17)
Notes.
- I don't remove RS Sr's even though we know some of these guys aren't coming back - I don't predict transfers either (at least not on the depth chart)
- Odds say we're going to lose a RS Sr. that could actually contribute this year - not sure who, but it wouldn't shock me.
- I've got Jeremy Clark as the first CB or S off the bench. Gant as the first LB in James Ross' current role.
- I have no idea what happens at LB.
- I broke out the TEs - You've got Butt's spot and the Hill and Wheatley replacing AJ Williams' spot.

I think your missing Peppers at slot wr, rb, fb, qb, olb, punter and lb coach.

Hill as a running threat could be huge for us considering we have no run game. I don't care if he's only here for a year.

But what a game would it be.
Only harbaugh would bring Hill in for 1 game....OSU Nov 2016.

I am also concerned about that. I guess we have to rely on the coaching staff to handle that but it seems to me that if we bring in another 5th year grad transfer at QB (two years in a row) then only two things can happen, both bad:
1) The 5th year grad transfer does not play or plays vey little - Makes it less likely we can get another 5th year grad transfer at QB in the future
2) And worse, the existing QBs on the team think it's unfair: competition is fine, but if you have to compete with a 5th year QB EVERY year, then it's not a fair competition

I say this in every Taysom hill thread. He'd be our best rb immediately.
If guy could stay healthy I'd put him there day 1 hah...good size for it too. Just not the right bones.
November 29th, 2015 at 11:39 AM ^
If he's willing to play RB. I'm sure he still has hopes of being an NFL QB.

Hell, I'd take Hill for no other reason than he could give our D a good look at an elite running QB in practice. You know, do something every day in practice to prepare for Ohio State like Bo did.

We just gonna forget about Zac Gentry here?
If all goes well, OKorn goes for 2 years then Gentry then Peters.
November 29th, 2015 at 2:00 AM ^
after O'korn being here for two years both Gentry and Peters will have been here long enough that the extra year for Gentry won't make much of a difference if any. Unless you flat out think Gentry is better than Peters?
November 29th, 2015 at 12:53 PM ^
I feel safe saying Gentry winds up a TE. Which gives us 2 years of O'Korn and 3 of Peters (without an injury to John and without Peters getting drafted as a redshirt Junior). Peters will pass Gentry as a QB, but Gentry could crack the rotation at TE next fall, he's that athletic.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:36 AM ^
Like Brian Cole, just waiting until there is more before I move him. But I think he's a LB in this class. Des Morgan 2.0 from HS QB to LB.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:35 AM ^
I thought Grant Newsome burnt his RS?
November 29th, 2015 at 12:37 AM ^
Nice catch...this was copy and pasted from the bye week.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:35 AM ^
Ick. Hopefully someone steps up. Defense should be fine otherwise. Our BUCK spot was decent with RJS and Ojemudia this year but nothing special so we can find a replacement and Thomas looks like he'll make a good replacement for Wilson. Offensively, Morris is gone. Pretty much everyone is saying it's going to be O'Korn unless Taysom Hill decides to come. I am also a firm believer that if Kareem Walker commits, he'll be starting by at least October. Also, isn't Terry Richardson gone? I thought he was a RS SR this year. I don't know if he ever even recorded a tackle here.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:41 AM ^
But no, he actually played his first year - I actually remember him vs. Bama, he redshirted his second. So he's a RS Jr. right now.
No tackles to his name according to MGoBlue.com.

No disrespect to Greg but I would think if Jim wanted him as DC he would have just kept him there and not brought in his own guy.
Keep him at DL coach where he does a great job and go find the next up and comer.
If Durkin leaves in 12 months rather than now I bet PSU's excellent DC will be available as I expect Franklin to be dead man walking at this time next November.

Durkin to Bowling Green!!!
Why is ASh from OSU not getting hype - sheesh he has had 2 years there of good D. Durkin has one and he already getting more play. Weird.
November 29th, 2015 at 1:07 AM ^
November 29th, 2015 at 1:11 AM ^
Do you have some inside information to suggest Durkin will be leaving soon?

Seemed like he was mentally gone today.

Teryl Austin would make a solid DC.
Kevin Steele stays on at LSU with Miles keeping his job.
You have UGA's DC if Richt is fired...
John Chavis is an SEC guy, but you potentiall have him if Sumlin went to USC.
Vance Bedford would go with Charlie Strong wherever he went...if he left.
I like the Austin fit, myself. Austin has the Florida/Ravens connection just like Greg Mattison. IMO, that's another dominate defense.

"I am also a firm believer that if Kareem Walker commits, he'll be starting by at least October."
Ah the memories of winter of 3 years ago
"I am also a firm believer that Derrick Green will be starting by first game of Big 10 season over Fitz...if not sooner." - 85% of MgoBlog :)

Okay well you know what makes Kareem > Green?
OSU actually wanted Kareem Walker whereas they stopped recruiting Green when we got him.
I'll trust Urbz' judgment when it comes to RBs anyday especially if it's in agreement with Harbs.
November 29th, 2015 at 2:03 AM ^
OSU stopped recruiting Green when they got Elliot.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:37 AM ^
but Taco Charlton may not be back. He's looking into declaring for the draft, but IMO, he's better off coming back for next season. It's not 100% for sure that he's declaring
November 29th, 2015 at 12:38 AM ^
A backup declaring for the draft. I thought that was only a Cardale Jones thing.

He is a physical specimen. But yes based on production it would be out of left field.
November 29th, 2015 at 1:27 AM ^
November 29th, 2015 at 2:20 AM ^
but I have reliable sources who indicated that Taco indeed has been mulling about declaring for the draft. He hasn't decided yet.
November 29th, 2015 at 9:18 AM ^
He even plays like a kid who's just trying to make the NFL. Only wants t to do or excels at the flashy stuff.
I see him getting an eval and when he realizes there are a ton of physically gifted players declaring just like him and he's a late 6th - UFA grade, he'll decide to come back.
He just doesn't feel like a grinder type to me. Feels like the kid who's had a foot out the door ever since he got to Michigan. I could be way off base, but there are plenty of signs that point to it. The probelm is, you have to be good and dominate so you can get the opporunity to leave early. You can't be a career backup. You at least have to be Frank Clark.
November 29th, 2015 at 10:31 AM ^
Not far fetched for a guy to not necessarily be meshing with this new staff and figures he'll take his chances with the draft.
November 29th, 2015 at 12:41 AM ^
Mason Cole could move to C. He practiced there and is a better fit for his skillset. If he wants a NFL future, he better start moving to C immediately.
