FPI (Football Power Index): Michigan #21
Due to excessive levels dopamine and endorphins released after watching us maul BYU, I'm posting every ranking--qualitative or quantitative--that indicates our already decent level of quality, and hopefully indicates a broader trend toward "significantly better than decent."
This time it's ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI):
The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule.
Big 10 Teams in the Top 25-ish
#7 OSU (projected wins: 11.2)
#20 MSU (projected wins: 9.9)
#21 Michigan (projected wins: 8.8)
#27 Wisconsin (projected wins: 9.3)

...as is any poll done 4 games (mostly non-conference) into a season.

Yuck. Recruiting ratings can ONLY be used in a pre-season forecast. They cannot have any weight in anything that (purports to) measures actual on-the-field performance.

Recruiting rankings give a decent estimate of the overall intrinsic talent level of the personnel on a team. When used as just another factor, I think it is as reliable as the implied transitive property so many poll voters use when trying to figure out how good a team is.

Do we really need a thread on EVERY meaningless poll out there? This isn't the RCMB. This blog is way better than that.

Cut us some slack . . . like sailors back on shore leave, we have not seen things that look this pretty for a loooong time. We can't stop looking.
And damn, they're everywhere.
