OT: Something's Happening in Alabama with Kiffin

Submitted by Bando Calrissian on

Sounds like Lane Kiffin may be on the way out at Alabama due to some... Extracurricular activities. Worth staying tuned today if the rumors have legs.

This is probably the best compilation of all the twitter buzz out there:

EDIT: Only posting chatsports because they've compiled the twitterverse into one article.

I wouldn't be surprised.  There were always similar rumors when Kiffin was at USC both as head coach and when he was an assistant.

Sarkisian is another one to watch.  There are tons of rumors from both his time at Washington and USC (as assitant and head coach) involving co-eds and alcohol.  College sports are filled with scumbags...

Kiffin had similar rumors circling at Tennessee also but it was allegedly co-eds and not a booster or coach wife. Funny but a LSU fan claiming to know said the only reason Saban left for the Dolphins was because his wife busted him sleeping with coeds too.

This rumor is just that but the nature of the rumor is interesting:

1. These sort of rumors are worth noting NOT because they may have any credibility but because when they appear it is often associated with serious unhappiness in the local fan base. Look up Dan Devine's time at Green Bay (someone shot his dog) and Notre Dame (where there was an article about how he had to have a custom made Irish jacket) - so it is easy to imagine in today's 24/7 infosphere that the fans down there go over board. This is the place where people go inject herbicide to kill old trees just because of football.

2. It shows the depth that Playboy even in the era of internet porn has become part of social awareness - It is impressive how quickly that faux daughter picture was identified. Only thing missing was the year she was Playmate of the Year.

and I wouldn't be stunned in the least of he had done any (or all) of the accusations but the timing is suspect AS FUUUUUUU. They just lost a big game and their fanbase is completely irrational due to roughly a decade of dominance. I assumed he'd be dumped at the end of the year for a spread guy (Bama learns by losses under Saban) but I could see the entire fanbase wanting him out ASAP. Like, NAO. Right NAO. Hence the accusations that'd be ignored if deemed great at his job. Finally, I have zero doubt that the younger - ish coaches at wild, football crazed programs get the opportunity to bang coeds. I'm sure 18-24 year old strange (lol sorry) gets thrown at them. It might be skanky but that's not the point. It's there for the taking and I'm sure many take it. I'd bet cash that Kiffin, Meyer, Sark, and hundreds more have done it in the last 5 years alone. Single? Age difference is iffy but all are adults so I'd keep my opinions to myself. The biggest difference I've ever had was 6 years in my 20s and I still feel horrible. I'm early 30s and last year I turned down a 21 year old while out in A2 purely out of morals. Yet, I had tons bag on me for declining the offer. I wouldn't judge of they were single but married? No. I don't care if it's a 25 year old assistant to an assistant and a 22 year old coed, if either are married I'd frown on that. You don't get married if you would sleep with ANYONE else the day of your engagement, IMO. I think it's likely a bit of a which hunt regardless of truth.

This is nothing other than discontent whinny Alabama fans, who don't know how to lose, blaming Lane Kiffin for the recent decline in the program. Boo hoo. Why aren't you people blaming Saban? Isn't he the one who hired him? Kiffin is the biggest oversold coach In the history of college football. That's all the more reason you should be pissed at Saban, not Kiffin.

If Kiffin is out I don't see how it is anything but a positive for Alabama. That moron is the reason Alabama is not the defending national champions. He wrecked Tennessee, wrecked USC, and then ignored his offense's greatest strength (running game) in the playoff game. How he still has a job is beyond me.
