OT: What is your second favorite rivalry in sports?

Submitted by The Dirty Nil on
Assuming everyone on the board would share the same opinion on the number one rivalry, what is the second best?

I'll say Canadiens vs Bruins. Those games have been intense the last several years.

I never miss an opportunity to watch Tom Brady give Peyton Manning a bare bottom spanking on national television

Obviously as a Chicago sports fan, I'm going to say Bears vs. Packers even though it's been one-sided as of late (sigh).

I'd also add Cubs vs. Cardinals, but there's not the animosity that really brings a rivalry to another level. It's also been one-sided forever (sigh again).

Duke vs. UNC is up there as well as I've always had an affection for UNC since Jordan went there.

Yankees vs. Red Sox was fun when I was living in New York (especially during 2004).

I will say that in the past 6-7 years, the Bulls vs. Heat (even pre-LeBron) has been pretty intense.

I'm not sure that's my second favorite, but it is vastly underrated by folks east of the Rockies. It epitomizes the SoCal/NorCal divide. There's a hatred on par with other great rivalries. Unfortunately, that led to the Bryan Stow beating. I bring that up only as an example of the extremes some fans go to with this rivalry.

I have to go with Bruins vs Canadiens. Being from Boston and playing hockey, we are bred to hate the Habs. From Subban not-so-gracefully "falling" into the boards every chance he gets, to fans calling for assault charges on Chara, it's safe to say they are on Ohio St's level for me in terms of most hated!

Do kids even do this anymore?

I remember the difficulties in finding an open basketball or tennis court growing up. Today, instead of going to the gym I went to some outdoor basketball courts to shoot around. Eight hoops and I was the only one there
