The NFL Draft

Submitted by Waynes World on
The NFL draft starts tonight thru Saturday. I miss the old format with the draft starting on Saturday. I looked forward to a Saturday in April much like Super Bowl Sunday. What are your thoughts?

Pats fan,
I hate waiting until almost midnight to hear who the pats pick only for them to trade back to the early 2nd round. Then I have to wait 24 hours for what used to be about an hour or so. Way too drawn out. I also used to make a day of it with my buddies. Having them over drinking, eating, playing cards, watching the picks. Now it's like want to come over and watch the 4-7 rounds?

I prefer the draft earlier and on one day.  It's not always better to talk about a league all year round.  I get NFL burnout.

It always helps me on the first day of the NFL Draft to remember that some fanbases will need some mutual support and comfort, my own included typically, but none like this...

*I don't think it's a bigger thing in the long term for the Birds than Harbaugh, but the buzz for JH built up more slowly and by the time "it" happened, most of the UM fanbase was aware of it.

This Mariota thing, on the other hand, is freaking insane. No one knows what CK is going to do, and he has shown zero interest in following traditional NFL rules (draft values, etc) to get what he appears to want. I know that this could end up setting the franchise back a decade but I can't help but think it's worth trying

Going into offseason, I was deadset against burning multiple picks and players to acquire Mariota. But given the alternative of Sam Bradford as my starting QB, there is now no price I would not be willing to pay for the 2 pick.

Well played Chip.  Make the existing QB choices on hand so unpalatable that I have no choice but to accept and actively root for the Titans to rob us blind with a blockbuster trade that makes RG3 look like a dollar store bargain.

but this year is one that I'm oddly indifferent to. It's good the Lions have a later pick but not really because we weren't that good anyway. We need tons of help & I'm happy we're not picking top-10 but I think its hampered my interest this year. There are about 50 guys I'd be ok with us taking at that spot so no drama, etc. I will say that I absolutely think HB makes a return. I predict 2 going in the 1st with a potential for 7 in rounds 1-2. I could even see a 3rd HB sneaking into the 1st. Also, weakest position has to be Safety. If you need a legit Safety you might not get one via draft this year. QB might be next....

It's going to be an interesting event at the very least, downtown Chicago is turned upside down with all the tents and temporary shit they have put up. It's crazier than Lolla or Pitchfork.

Anyone else itching for the Draft to get started? Not sure what it is about the draft but every year I get sucked into the madness no matter if the Lions/Michigan players are going to be factors or not.

but is the LSU OL, Collins, asking the NFL to exempt him from the draft (they denied) and allow him to simply be a FA? I'm not sure what he wants wrt asking the NFL to be left out of the draft. I know he has the issue of his ex-gf sadly being killed but he's not a suspect, etc. They just wanted to talk to him & I guess she had a child that may be his right before or after death. That's horrible to be dealing with & all condolences but what exactly is he asking of the NFL? He doesn't have to be there too get drafted so it's not that. I don't think he's asking to be reclassified for next year. Supplemental draft? UFA? Thanks.

It's SUPER BOWL THURSDAY here in Cleveland...woo woo.  There isn't a day in the season more exciting for a Browns fan then today.

I just really hope they dont fuck it up for the 16th straight year.  Just sit tight and draft whoever is the best on your board at 12 & 19 and do NOT reach up for Mariotta.  I'm great with making a move if he slides to #5 but dont give away everything to get the mythical QB of our dreams.
