The official Jim Hackett "coffee is for closers" posbang / appreciation thread

Submitted by CoachBP6 on
While we are all waiting for the official, official, official announcement, I think we need to acknowledge the amazing job Jim Hackett has done since becoming interim athletic director. The position Hackett was put into seemed impossible to many and yet he has done nothing but execute his plan to perfection. So let's posbang for Jim Hackett and perhaps gift him with a lifetime supply of premium blend. Seriously let's enjoy the next few days, we deserve it. HAIL HAIL!!!

Is it possible that Harbaugh was dead set on coming here all along, and communicated to someone within the AD that as long as Brandon was gone, he would be our next coach? Is it possible that Hackett did nothing at all except to lay low and not hijack the process? Did Hackett really do extraordinary things to pull this off, or was this all Harbaugh's doing? I really would love to know.

not going to guarantee this, but I think it is a possibility. I believe he may have honestly concluded that Michigan is where he wanted to be. I think the college game works better for his philosophy.  i think some dominoes had to fall in order for him to be truly interested, but when they did, he was all in.

"Coffee is for closers" in several Jeffrey Gitomer books (if you're in his weekly email jolt you can win mugs that say it I believe), and a quick Google search yields only information about a band named "Coffee's for closers" in the movie Glengarry Glen Ross. Just wondering where you heard it OP, didn't know Gitomer was that popular. His books all sales oriented so it makes sense considering what Hackett has just pulled off.

Their search contrasted sharply with prior ones by Brandon, Martin, and Coleman.  The latter reminded me of the line from Bertold Brecht:

"I fed the tiger

I fled the fleas

What got me at last?

Mediocrities"

Today, our leaders showed us what can be achieved by working as a team, not settling for anything but the best, and managing a meddlesome media that have their own agendas.

Their courage, intelligence and strength demonstrated the excellence that is Michigan.

They made me proud to be an alum.

I have only paid attention to Michigan's coaching searches and only since Lloyd came on.  But to say this is better than the last 2 is an uderstatement.  Hats off!

Impressed by Schlissel's ability to change his outlook on college sports, and very impressed by Hackett's ability to carry out a professional search. The whole process was very calm and organized, and a very welcome change after the past few searches.

Furniture CEO >>>>> Pizza CEO Hackett proves you can translate business skills to other fields of endeavor. He showed some great M&A skills to capture Harbaugh and keep all other suitors away. You the man, Hack!

make the power move of power move, keep the situation under control, and basically avoid a single misstep through a field of land mines. And it's clear that he was trusted by Schlissel in this pivotal moment for our program.

Bless that dude. He was exactly the grownup professional we needed in the worst way.
