Bacon on the huge show right now. "It's going to be a long two weeks"

He says Harbaugh is candidate 1,2,3,4. Harbaugh is the likeliest candidate right now for the Michigan job. Money will not be an issue. we can take Miles off the list. Miles doesn't seem to be the direction Michigan wants to take. He says it will be a long two weeks of speculation. We could be waiting until January 5th, but if he were to bet on a date it would be January 1st at the latest.

1) Harbaugh wants to coach Michigan, but wants to serve out the season with the 49ers before joining Michigan.

2) Harbaugh wants to coach Michigan but wants the 49ers to fire him first so that he can be free to join any NFL team in the future.

3) Harbaugh not sure what he wants and would prefer the 49ers fire him so he has all options available.

There is more but ets look at it from the 49ers perspective:

If the 49ers want to make a coaching change then they will need to be in a position to interview coaches starting the first couple weeks of January when most Pro coaches are hired. Last year all new coaches were in place by 1/24/2014

Bill O’Brien Houston 1/2/2014
Lovie Smith Tampa Bay 1/7/2014
Ken Whisenhunt Tennessee 1/13/2014
Jim Caldwell Detroit 1/14/2014
Mike Zimmer Minnesota 1/15/2014
Mike Pettine Cleveland 1/23/2014
Jay Gruden Washington 1/24/2014

The issues is not just getting a head coach but many assistants are being hired/replaced early in the year as well as new staffs are put together or changed.

Ideally they would like to trade Harbaugh for picks but the chance of this happening within this time frame will be difficult unless they are already talking to teams about this happening - which we haven’t heard anything about yet.

This points to sometime after the 49ers last game as the time when they would most likely fire Harbaugh unless they have a trade partner in place or want to get the jump on the other teams and start the search process early.

Just so people understand, after the the NFL season ends, other NFL teams cannot "tamper" with Harbaugh until after the 49ers season and their season ends. The can only talk to Harbaugh with permission of the 49ers. This rule includes approved NFL agents of coaches as well. So, it won't be free season on Jimmy once the NFL season ends.

Well, I can guarantee Jim is doing what every other NFL coach is doing this week, working 16 hour days ton prepare for his next game. I doubt he is calling buddies that he hasn't talked to in 10 years.

We are banking on Harbaugh making an impulsive decision, that is to say, making a decision before seeing what else is our there.  I don't like the two week window comment at all.  That tells me Harbaugh will wait until the end of the NFL season to see what else is out there (don't blame him).

Time is not on our side.  I commend Hackett for doing everything in his power to get Harbaugh.  If the 6 yr / $48 million offer is true, then Harbaugh will be the highest paid football coach period (he'll match Payton and be higher than Saban).  You really can't offer anything more.

You wonder whether Hackett should give Harbaugh an ultimatum.  I hope the AD is plugged in on what's going on in the NFL so they know what offers there may be out there.  If there's a  total control offer from a desirable team in a desirable location (for example, if the Jets or the Bears come in with that), then I dunno.
