Noon Games Open Thread
Incredibly full day of good games today - some in each time slot rather than being all stuffed at 8 PM to boot. Going to be a good one.
OSU v Maryland and A&M v Miss State (no defense to be played) should be the 2 most interesting in the noon time slot
- Ball State at Army, CBS Sports Net, noon
- Florida at Tennessee, SEC, noon
- Iowa State at Oklahoma State, FS1, noon
- Marshall at Old Dominion, FSN, noon
- Ohio State at Maryland, ABC, noon
- Purdue at Illinois, ESPN2, noon

No, but does it matter?

OP I still can't get over David Cutcliffe in ur sig line...and Todd F'N Graham. Like Greg Schiano was busy? home run hires they are not.
Send us the 61 year old Mad Hatter for a decade.
go Terps (today)

Graham has just as good of a resume as Sumlin (who everyone loves)
http://mgoblog.com/diaries/coaching-candidate-todd-graham-similar-hc-re…
Cutcliffe did just as well as Ole Miss as Mullen is doing at Miss State (who everyone loves) and is exactly the type of guy Brandon would go for being a Dukie.
October 4th, 2014 at 12:19 PM ^
Cutcliffe is old(60) and has no ties to the Midwest. Mullen is younger, but he was on the hotseat just last year. Sumlin's teams play no defense. The same for Graham.
Michigan needs a coach who understands that both sides of the ball are of equal importance.UM has had an all-offensive guy and an all-defense guy.Neither guy has succeeded.
October 4th, 2014 at 12:24 PM ^
Graham's defenses at ASU his first 2 years were ranked #2 in 2012 (behind Stanford) and #4 in 2013 (behind Stanford, USC, Oregon). So he actually does play some defense. Sumlin doesnt.
Look Cultcliffe is not my favorite or anything - he seems like a guy Brandon would go after with his love for all things Duke.
p.s. Miles LSU's teams are generally bottom 40 in the country year after year, and Gundy's defenses are bottom 20 year after year. Gundy is basically Sumlin. Miles is basically MSU of 2012 but with far better athletes.

"The type of guy Brandon would go for being a Dukie."
I guess it's time for me to buy the Diageo stock if this is where the program goes...
80k crowds are also going to be a related issue

Maryland sold out for the first time since 2008.
BIG TEN!
October 4th, 2014 at 12:05 PM ^
That's what happens when Big 10 powers comes to town. It must be surreal for Marylnd fans that this is conference game for them.
This should be a decent game.
October 4th, 2014 at 12:05 PM ^
Perhaps this Texas A&M game is a scouting report for a new coach...
October 4th, 2014 at 12:05 PM ^
Why can other teams have nice things but not us?
October 4th, 2014 at 12:06 PM ^
A&M TD. This game could be 60-45 the way these 2 teams play defense.
October 4th, 2014 at 12:06 PM ^
Wow. That must really be nice. To be able to score that quickly, of course. To be able to score in the first place, really.
October 4th, 2014 at 12:06 PM ^
Apparently Maryland is having a red out today.
Bold strategy is bold.
October 4th, 2014 at 1:55 PM ^
Let's see if it pays off for them.

October 4th, 2014 at 12:19 PM ^
The defense.... not so much.
October 4th, 2014 at 12:07 PM ^
they just waltzed down the field. I can dream of us poaching Sumlin
October 4th, 2014 at 12:08 PM ^
They just mistook someone's mouthguard for a flag in the Purdue-Illinois game. That bodes well for this particular matchup, I think. Also, Purdue has a great east-west running game if that first drive is any indication.

Maryland has those stupid helmets back on.
October 4th, 2014 at 12:10 PM ^
to poach Sumlin.
October 4th, 2014 at 12:15 PM ^
MSU already down to A&M's 10. Nice A&M defense as always. Sumlin needs a D coordinator.
October 4th, 2014 at 12:18 PM ^
One of these 2 coaches below is Sumlin at Houston. The other is another coach in the same division of Conf USA whose career overlapped with Sumlin 3 of the 4 years he was in Conference USA. He makes $2.4M today and could be had in a minute.
Can you tell the difference between the 2 coaches?
Coach 1: 36-17 W/L. Three 10+ win seasons and 1 down year. Total offense ranked as Top 5 in the country 3 of the 4 years he was there. Defense was not good 2 of the 4 years, but in this type of conference anything in the 60s-70s is considered "decent".
Tot Off | Tot Def | ||
2006 | 8-5 | 24 | 21 |
2007 | 10-4 | 1 | 108 |
2008 | 11-3 | 1 | 74 |
2009 | 5-7 | 35 | 85 |
2010 | 10-3 | 5 | 111 |
Coach 2: 36-17 W/L. Two 10+ win seasons and 1 down year. Total offense ranked as Top 5 in the country 3 of the 4 years he was there. Defense was not good for 3 of the 4 years, but in this type of conference anything in the 60s-70s is considered "decent".
Tot Off | Tot Def | ||
2007 | 8-5 | 4 | 46 |
2008 | 8-5 | 2 | 100 |
2009 | 10-4 | 1 | 111 |
2010 | 5-7 | 11 | 103 |
2011 | 13-1 | 1 | 62 |
October 4th, 2014 at 12:25 PM ^
#1 is Graham, #2 is Sumlin.
October 4th, 2014 at 12:30 PM ^
Rather have Mullen. Sumlin's defenses are always garbage.
October 4th, 2014 at 12:34 PM ^
Sumlin had the 109th defense in 2013... at Texas A&M! They recruit just below UM level. That's pathetic.
Gundy is not much different when I looked at him over his career - similar coaches actually.
October 4th, 2014 at 12:11 PM ^
So young QBs can apparently run offenses everywhere but UM - Kenny Hill, freshman dude at AZ, JT Barrett. Good to know.

Pretty much. And they're adidas uniforms, too.
October 4th, 2014 at 12:18 PM ^
1) I agree that those uniforms are sweet.
2) What the hell are you talking about? How many uniformz has our team donned since Dave Brandon took over? Lots.

What is Maryland thinking with their helmets?
October 4th, 2014 at 12:32 PM ^
It's their pride helmet...it's really pretty cool if you're a Maryland fan because that state takes so much pride in its unique flag.
Really not that big of a deal anymore.
I want to know what Tennessee is thinking with the T on the front of their jersey. They have it on the front of their helmet, above the last name on the back, above the number on the front, on both side of the helmet and on their pants.
In case you didn't know...Tennessee is playing. And that T, below the Adidas logo, looks awful
