Wearing Red

What rule/rules exist about wearing the color red? Not having been raised a Wolverine, I am a little concerned about wearing a primary color of a certain team which will not go named, and don't want to commit some sort of sports fashion faux pas.
 
Please enlighten me!

Or when painted like the girls above? I'm a little confused about your question. You mean to games/on game days, or in general? To games there's really no reason to be wearing anything other than blue or that arrogant shade of yellow, and I guess white would be acceptable. In general, if you let your college fandom dictate what colors you can/cannot wear you've got more issues than me- and I'm action packed with issues. (Unless it's red and has something Buckeye related on it in which case you'll most likely be shot. But probably only in my neighborhood. Or certain areas of LA.)

I'd agree, but the stupid thing is how many people are actually going to go buy a Maize shirt? A "blue out" (which is just a stupid name b/c it doesn't even remotely approach the pun of a "White Out" or "Blackout") would be so much easier to establish. I don't understand the thinking behind this.

That's one thing that killed me during my undergrad. Alums wear a rainbow of colors, and something like PSU's whiteout would never be possible at UM.

Once again, I think blue or white would be possible if we made a concerted effort and some sort of media campaign to establish it. Getting the bluehairs to all wear maize is about as possible as getting them to stand during games. Unless a t-shirt was included with every ticket- just make Adidas pick up the tab.

Adidas is also going to have to make maize colored cardigans if the bluehairs are going to take part in a maize-out. Otherwise half of them are going to have frostbite by the end of September.

Whatever, we don't have a tradition of wearing the same color the way Nebraska has the Sea of Red, or PSU has the White Out. Regardless, like 90% of the fans show up wearing some sort of Michigan-related outfit. That's fine. As for wearing red - don't do it when you go to the OSU game. Other than that, whatever.

Don't wear red on the day of the OSU game, other than that anything is acceptable (obviously no wearing of OSU shirts in general - but this should be common sense).  (There are someother red teams I would also recommend never wearing any of their gear: #1 would be StL Cardinals)

 

As for what to wear to the games - I have always been on the side of wear whatever official gear you want to the game.  You pay 80 bucks for a Harbaugh jersey you have the right to wear that even if it is supposed to be a "maize out."

 

I don't think the maize out is a great idea because 1. things like a black out, Nebraska's sea of red and the penn st white out are easy to do - because everyone has a red, black or white shirt in their closet.  Not everyone has a maize shirt, even if your an M fan.  And like I said before a lot of people want to wear their expensive jersey to the game, which is perfectly fine.

If I'm not mistaken, PSU actually gives out white t-shirts on designated "White Out" days. Asking people to voluntarily wear a certain color will never be 100% successful.
