I'm still recovering from the 30 for 30 on Hillsborough from Tuesday night.
Great great piece... but man was it difficult to watch sometimes. I honestly think it was the best 30 for 30 yet.
Hopefully this one is a bit more up-beat. :)
One of the best, if not the best. The only other one I can remember affecting me like that was Into the Wind.
Okay, if I had to do this Rob Fleming style, I'd go --
Into the Wind
Hillsborough
Once Brothers
Two Escobars
Marinovich Project
I completely forgot about that one!
I was thinking about Hillsborough vs Two Escobars for my #1, but man.. Into the wind is up there. That one was great as well.
but Once Brothers is probably my favorite out of the ones I've seen. I like when history gets involved in sports. I don't feel bad for Vlade in that situation, but it is interesting to see how a quick, impulsive mistake can haunt you the rest of your life. They still hate him in Croatia. I think all of us can find times in our lives where we did something stupid and regretted it, but were lucky to not have it affect us that much; the show gave me pause and made me thankful for what I have, and to be more thoughtful of my actions in the future.
Hillsborough was amazing (in a terrible way, kinda). Best 30 for 30 I've ever seen.

Incredible that it's just going to trial this year and the event was in '89. I had no idea going into watching it that it wasn't a resolved story yet
Hope they play the theme to "Cops" during the segment.
I can't find a gif of that or any gif of the Microwave.
A microwave you say?
Also...could have just posted this awesomeness.
My high school job was working at a "full-service" gas station in afluent Bloomfield during this time period. Vinny Johnson would show up to the gas station on his way to the Palace in his black 911 (windows tinted very dark) and roll the window down about a half an inch. He'd slide a 20 out the window and tell us to keep the change. (10 gallons full service cost about $12.)
I know... /csb but the Microwave was an incredible 6th man -- stone cold!
Always my favorite picture from the bad boys era.
and Ann Arbor. We were on top of the world!
1989
- University of Michigan wins their first Men's NCAA basketball championship
- Pistons win their first World Championship
BASKETBALL!!

I'll definitely set my DVR. I LOVED the Bad Boys when I was a kid!
Those 7 years from getting back into the playoffs to winning back to back championships is one of the greatest NBA stories ever. These guys were a few plays of competing in, and possibly winning, 4 straight championships. I've been looking forward to this tale being told on one of these 30 for 30 shows since the series began.
Oh yeah, I forgot that Isiah used to have his first name above his last name on the back of his jersey. Why did he do that?
Excited about the doc but Simmons has a way of skewing anything that might be related to Boston in that direction. Hope we don't see that influence here but Johnny Most being featured in the promos is a bit concerning.
One element I hope gets touched on during the doc or afterward in discussion is that everyone who hated LeBron and Wade teaming up and thinks the NBA is better when teams hate each other - they owe the Bad Boys a lot of gratitude. Nobody turned up the intesity switch of an NBA playoff series like they did. Villains are entertaining and they were 100% on board with playing the role, which is awesome.
I can't believe I missed The Spider!
ARe you seriously going to censor ass
I remember reading a book about the Bad Boys in college called "The Franchise". I was a big fan of the Bad Boys back then, and I still love them. Great book and I would highly recommend it.
I wonder if George Blaha was doing games back then. I hope to hear some Blaha.
Magic and Isiah together :D
Yeah, I noticed him on the radio table for a brief second. They just put the TV calls on and they don't have Blaha do them :(
I heard him until about 2004 or 2005 when he moved to the TV side. It's a shame he doesn't do radio anymore. He may do MSU games right now but the man is a legend
16 points in a minute and a half still boggles my mind.
From the man who said Brady Hoke was the only choice for Michigan, I give you...

Greg Monroe came out today and said that the Pistons lacking an identity and a team atmosphere is one of the things that doomed them. Seems oddly prescient considering the documentary.
"Jordan Rules"
Celtics left the floor early before the Pistons left the floor early
What an incredible one-ankle performance by Isiah.
What a fucking crap call at the end.
Media bias...Broadcasters bias (Heinson-Musburgher-Stockton) and finally NBA Ref bias
