I didn't watch the game, but was able to watch the highlight of it. Boy, USWNT did not look good and was fortunate that they were able to draw against Portugal. Yes, they don't have some of the players, but still, poor half against the Dutch and a poor game against Portugal is a cause for concern as they move onto the knockout rounds. The coaching and tactic has been predictable at best.
The world has started to catch up to the USA and they're much more technically proficient than them. The lack of youth development compared to Europe has started to bite them in the butt. Also, the rest of the world's younger generation has had more training compared to 10-20 years ago. That's JMO on my observation with Women's Soccer thus far.

All for USA track and field womens teams, USA softball, USA Womens Hockey, USA Womens Field Hockey, USA Womens Gymnastics, ETC ETC EC
Just those 2 and the whole WNBA cannot give support to and will not. I root against USA Womens soccer and USA Womens basketball and the WNBA. WNBA cannot even financially support itself. it is a very boring game with a lot of unappreciative loudmouth's. Same can be said for some on USWNT Soccer team as well.
I assume the USA will get Sweden next, hope the Swedes win that !

The WNBA triggers you for some reason. Pretty sure they turned a profit in 2023 when they doubled revenues. So update your talking points. Plus, as you may or may not be aware, a lot of businesses, such as Amazon, will spend years losing money before becoming profitable. I have no clue if the WNBA will ever be a good business, and frankly I don't even really care, but I think it's hilarious how mad a women's sports league makes you. The USFL and the AAFL both lost money and folded. But something tells me you didn't get all hot and bothered about them existing.

I always thought the USWMNT dominance was almost entirely due to the need for the rest of the world to catch up to the emergence of women's soccer as a global sport.
If I had to guess, I would be predicting that the USWNT will be the inverse of the USMNT over the next twenty years.
The men needed to catch up to the world (as the sport caught on in the US) and they slowly have been climbing the rankings. Now we will watch the world will catch up to the women and their dominance of the sport will end quite quickly.
It is really good for the sport on both sides.

It is similar to the relationship of the quality of U.S. men's basketball to the rest of the world.
I agree except for one difference. N. America invented Basketball so it will still take some extra time for the world to catch up because the institutions, coaches and history is still rooted here in N. America.
Soccer was primarily invented in Europe and outside of N. America globally in various forms and iterations over the past 2,000 years.
Catching up with the foundation, which the Europeans have in Women's soccer is an added bonus.
This version of the USWNT is a very offensively challenged team. It is who they are right now and it is not going to change.
So they need to stop playing as if they are going to score 4 goals against elite teams.
They play a naive straight-ahead direct style on offense that is ineffective and creates defensive lapses and leaves them open to counters. That style is obsolete. The rest of the world has caught up, you can't just out-athlete them and count on simply outscoring them like you used to.
There are long term structural issues that need to be fixed in playing style and technical proficiency that were able to be papered over in the past.
But for right now, their options are limited. First and foremost, they must resolve themselves to tight, controlled, win-by-one-goal games. They don't have the firepower to just come from behind after mental give-away lapses.
