Doesn’t the Mattison Move Reek of Desperation?
I am stunned by the news and am shocked at Mattison. That being said, OSU’s best coaching hire for DC was to hire Michigan’s 70 year old position coach?
To me, this announces they feel in a position of weakness (for whatever reason) and will do whatever it takes to take the spotlight off themselves/insecurities.
The right response here is for Harbaugh to go on TV and laugh at their desperation - change the script. It’s their feeling of inferiority that caused this move. Take Hand.

Not sure I agree. Pulling a young DB coach and good recruiter from the pros and then adding in the experience of Mattison... doesn't reek of desperation... it reeks of improving your coaching staff and hitting a rival in the process.
Losing Grinch wasn't that big of a deal. His safeties sucked for the first 10 games and he failed to identify White as a true talent.... I'm sure they're fine that he went to Oklahoma....

Awful take, bro. Why don't you go on TV and say that?

Just who was it that came up with the phrase:
"If you can't beat 'em join 'em?--
was it David or Goliath?

No, he is merely there to guide and train the other Co-DC who will probably be sole DC when Mattison decides to retire. That's just a guess.

Agreed. Great call when you have a fantastic young coordinator on board... to be able to hire a guy who has seen it all to dump knowledge onto him... very very very smart hire.

I think parts of this Mattison hire were fishy. I really think Zach Harrisons recruitment was involved here
Couldve been Mattison was told by OSU if he pushed Harrison to OSU then they would give him a job. Could be Mattison sabotaged the recruitment on his own knowing he would want Harrison at OSU

I mean, it's easy for us to think these things for sure. It's a lot harder to think about the fact that Harrison, Mattison and Washington all saw a better opportunity present itself and jumped at the chance to actually be relevant next year.
Sucks, but is what it is.

Reeks all around.
Why has no one brought up that it looked like OSU had our defensive play calls down to a T. Maybe its because they did.

Or maybe it's because we decided to run our weak offensive scheme and not change. OSU's linebackers were out of position ALL YEAR and sucked inside ALL YEAR. So what do we do... (after the 8 yard run by Higdon to the outside to start the game) ... we run INSIDE .... Hell OSU's linebackers didn't do anything differently for the most part than they have all year. They just played out of position and we were very stupid and ran right at them.
Down to a T .... we may as well have just told them what we were doing it's so simplistic.

This is a joke, right?

This post reeks of desperation

Mattison was an integral part of a defensive staff that allowed 103 points in its last two games. How much of a coaching loss is this?
