Silver Lining in these coaching changes/rumors

It’s crazy how much noise you here about guys coming and going. The coaching carousel is in full swing in college football, and don’t see it changing anytime soon. With that said, pro’s and cons to this happening.

The good is for UM and all other colleges during this process. 90% of recruits signed in the first signing period, so no recruits are leaving. Michigan will be fine however this shakes out. Other coaches out there who could do the job. Personally only a couple guys I would be upset losing, (Warinner/Partridge/Zorich). Rest are whatever. Would love to see Pep go, but think that’s what all UM fans want.

Lost in this entire thing is what’s best for the kids and players. Great for us as fans to not stress or be upset about what recruits we lose, but can you imagine being recruited by a guy and deciding on a school due to that position coach/coordinator and they bail before you play a down? That’s kind of crappy. I know you don’t commit to a coach, but if you’re torn between a few spots, the coach could be the difference.

Will be interesting to see in future. Do you think more high end recruits (4-5 Stars) will wait until second signing day (February) due to all the coaching chances across football? I know If I was a recruit I would like to see how things shake out before making my final decision. During the current format though, we wlll be ok. Most schools will be. It’s the player who pays the price.

Can you imagine the turmoil on this site right now with incoming recruits if it was still the old format??? Lol, oh boy.

Watching Alabama and Clemson traid blows, it doesn’t matter at all who our defensive staff is. We had the best d all year until we played OSU and 62 points were placed on us, should have been 69.

Thats the silver lining; it’s an offensive game.

I liked Greg M.  What happened to him being close to his girl and his grand kids who live near A2?  I'm not sure why he would want to move and take this job at 70.  I'm going to stay classy and wish him luck, but not against us.

Lets hope Harbo replaces the DL Coach this year as well as he replaced the OL Coach last year.  That one worked out for us!

I liked Greg, but he wasn't a savior. We had a great bump from GERG to Greg in 2011, but I don't recall anything that great in 2013-14 from our D. OSU torched us in 2013 and 2014 too. MSU got a lot of points and yards. Gary Nova beat Greg's D for 400 yards passing in 2014! He is not Bill McCartney circa 1980 Michigan.

I'm hoping DB stays and YES Brady Hoke comes back as DL coach if Washington goes to OSU.

Silver lining is Greg Mattison was a fucking snake. You can’t tell me Zach Harrison didn’t know he was going to OSU. I blame him for ZH not coming here. Fucking fossil.

while losing Mattinson to OSU is a blow to the ego, keep in mind that Nick Saban has lost 20 different assistants over the past 5 years. Last year, Saban lost his DC, Jeremy Pruitt, to an inter conference rival Tennessee.

So the optics don't look good for Mattinson bc he left for our most hated rival,  but we'll be ok.

I'm confident the D will replace any coaches lost with quality coaches.

The offense makes me nervous.  Ed Warriner is a very good OL coach but he cannot be allowed anywhere near the playbook.  He damn near derailed OSU's offense in 2015-16 before they sent him packing and hired Ryan Day.  Also, should be noted his OL wasn't very good when he took on the OC duties until they hired an OL coach for 2016.

Pep is a disaster.  Unreal he still has a job.

Until Harbaugh hires a Ryan Day/ Tom Herman/ Lincoln Riley/Tony Elliott caliber OC he isn't going to evolve the offense.  His last "innovative" OC was David Shaw and that worked out great for Stanford.

That's a lot of opinion, and I'm a bit pissy because Bama lost, so I'll be the grammar guy to say it is "if I were a recruit" not "was." The subjunctive case is important and should be used when discussing wants or wishes.

I know you don’t commit to a coach, but if you’re torn between a few spots, the coach could be the difference.

I think there are numerous well-documented counter-examples to this though with various teams, particularly in the last few years, where players have committed and then subsequently decommitted based on the employment status of a position coach.
